You are well on your way to completing this. I was making pretty good progress and then slacked off--so, I can see it taking me a couple more years to finish. I love watching the progress others make on it, since it encourages me to keep pushing.

Terry | 2370 comments Way to go, Brian! You and Sara are an inspiration and prompting me to set up my own Pulitzer challenge. I’ve read quit a few and a lot of others are on my TBR list. I appreciate that when you finish one you add your rating. Middlesex is on my list and I see you have it five stars. I should read that one soon!

Bravo, Brian! I also like the idea of putting your rating. The committee didn't always get it right, but in general I have enjoyed the ones I have read.

message 10: by Brian E (last edited Aug 22, 2021 08:46AM) (new)

Brian E Reynolds | 334 comments Thanks. I don't intend to ever complete the list. There is only one novel that was a DNF for me over the past 25 years and it's on this list - A Confederacy of Dunces. It's funny and kind of satisfying to see that several of you on this Group - Sara, Terry and Shirley - also disliked it.
My recollection from at least 20 years ago was that at about page 50 or so telling myself "I can't stand to spend another minute in the company of this Ignatius J. Reilly."
I normally can struggle through to the end of books I disliked. I've made it through many books with repulsive lead characters but for some reason, Mr. Reilly exceeded my tolerance limit. I failed to find any humor or interest in his behavior.

Coming right along, Brian! I'm glad you enjoyed The Killer Angels. I have been neglecting my Pulitzer challenge--the closer you get the harder it seems to be to tick them off.

Julie | 606 comments I plan on reading The Killer Angel's this year as well
(doing 10 books a year means I'm only lacking about 20 books, but some of them are getting hard to come by...)

Wow, 10 a year is a lot. Truthfully I don't expect to or plan to read some of them as there are some that look like a waste of time. As with reading Nobel winners, I just believe I need to read more of them in order for me to consider myself any kind of learned reader of literature.
