Wow, that was like Alien, crossed with Invasion of the Bodysnatchers, crossed with National Treasure, crossed with One Foot in the Grave!
I really enjoyed the seething dialogue between ‘Jerk’ and Hark when they were talking about who has changed, and how Hark doesn’t even notice that he has started to grow a pair, and can now stand up for himself a little. Only Jerk notices, when they do a verbal Labyrinth-ian dance and Hark is all ‘You have no power over me...mostly’. Jerk-Jareth is all kinds of fobbed off that his little puppet has started chewing the strings. But is Hark losing himself to the God Glass and just not caring as much about people because he has been changed?
I would love it if by the end of this book we find out that Hark is talking to a ‘lesser’ mortal being (us, the reader) from his ancient reign in the Undersea, wanting only for someone to carry his story and his old memories forward before he perishes. I think that would be really cool.
