I've been captured by memoirs most recently.

“Memoir” comes from the French word for memory. It’s a genre of literature where the author writes about his or her memories, usually going back to childhood. Memoirs are typically written by celebrities, world leaders, pro athletes, etc. But anyone can write a memoir, and sometimes they turn out to be great works of literature even when the author hasn’t led a particularly unusual life (https://literaryterms.net/memoir/).

What memoirs have you read? Are there any that you would recommend and why?

I am currently reading the memoir Becoming by Michelle Obama.

Another memoir that I read recently was Educated by Tara Westover. This one is really popular at the moment even though it's a difficult read. Tara writes about her time from childhood through late twenties, during which she dealt with emotional and physical abuse.

The last memoir I read was Educated as well! I really didn’t read the description before I read the book and it was an unexpected and painful and interesting story!

My favorite is Jenny Lawson's biography "Let's Pretend This Never Happened." It was a few years ago that I did, but I remember sitting in my local taqueria, collapsing with laughter, while the waitresses looked at me like I was nuts (they usually did, but I was in there a lot)

Jenny Lawson is really funny. She was ready to open a bookstore on Hwy 281 until the pandemic hit. When the virus is under control, she’ll good to go.

I recently read A Grief Observed by C.S. Lewis. He struggled with God in this one over the too early death of his wife. An excellent journey through grief over the loss of a loved one.

I read that one years ago Beverly! Even though the subject is a touchy one for many, I really enjoyed it.

I didn't know too much about the memoir either Veronica. Though once I started reading it, I couldn't put it down.
