Since GoodReads asks you how many books you plan to read each year, I'm curious about what goals the group is setting. How many books are you planning to read in 2015?

I'd like to say I was very brave and committed to a higher number, but I feel like I hardly did any reading for pleasure in 2014. I wanted to set a realistic goal since I'm getting back into the swing of things. I went with 52 books, one for each week of the challenge. I'll be pleased if I complete this challenge on time but I'm definitely going to try for more!

How about the rest of you? What's your 2015 goal?

I believe I put in 60 cuz I know a number of the books I will be reading will not take the full week so I will add in other books.

message 4: by Christy (new)

Christy (christy_t) I choose 80. I was up to 100 a couple years back, but struggled to get to 80 this year. I really only made it as I got ill and was out of work for 3 weeks at the end of the year!

message 5: by [deleted user] (new)

I picked 60 for now, I tend to adjust throughout the year if I need to. I read 84 or 85 in 2014 but started this year with a lower goal since I expect I'll be busier with a newborn this year. I always like how flexible the Goodreads challenge is.

message 6: by Erika (new)

Erika I went with 52 for now, just to play it safe, but if I finish a book early here and there, I might add a couple more as the year goes on.

message 7: by Trease (new)

Trease (sheshines) | 1 comments I'm going for 50.

message 8: by Richard (new)

Richard Lee | 16 comments As I am going through the 2015 Challenge, I noticed I am going surprisingly fast! I only expected to read the 52 books, but as there are weeks with shorter books, hopefully I'll be able to read more. My main problem is finding books that are to my liking, which is another reason why I signed up for the challenge, to broaden my horizons on topics and diversity of gender in books :)

message 9: by Holli (new)

Holli | 30 comments I'm trying for 100, but hoping to get over that. I generally try to read anything that stands still long enough. So, I'm hoping for a bunch of books read for the year. Good luck to everyone!

message 10: by Bruce (new)

Bruce Warren Same as Brittney, went 60.

message 11: by Taylor (new)

Taylor (amateursuperhero) | 66 comments I, like most others, am aiming for 52 and just sprinkling in extra books whenever I can.

68. Last year, I used my age for the challenge and ended up with more readings because I add comic books to my list. For 2015, it will be the same, but as there are the 52 RC books, I decided to aim twice my age :)

message 13: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (jollybookshelf) I picked 60 but I may up it. I'm enjoying finding some short stories to read. Not sure if they should really count, though.

message 14: by Abhishek (new)

Abhishek | 25 comments I've set it at 52, and I'd be lucky if I can hit that. I only read six books all of last year.

message 15: by Johanna (new)

Johanna | 31 comments I don't have a number goals like you, like Abhishek I just want to reach this goal.
Otherwise I would like take advantage of this challenge to kick some classic book that I never read (and is a shame xD)

message 16: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Adrienne (nicoleintrovert) My goal is 45. I hit 42 in 2014. I am doing the challenge a little bit differently than most as I plan on combining some of the topics.

message 17: by misplacedselchie (new)

misplacedselchie | 347 comments I think I set mine for 65 this year. Last year I had 53 and ended up hitting 62 or something lol

Sara (justsarahere) Abhishek wrote: "I've set it at 52, and I'd be lucky if I can hit that. I only read six books all of last year."

I only read a couple myself last year. I put mine at 50, but like Nicole I think I will have to combine topics on the challenge. With work, school, and my kid, reading a book a week sounds exhausting!

message 19: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm aiming for 100. I read 135 books last year, but those include unfinished books, so I'm playing it safe.

message 20: by Alexandra (new)

Alexandra Dumitrescu (alexandraxiuliana) 52 for each week of the year, but I don't think I will make it. Too many important exams for Uni and contests this year.

message 21: by Amy (new)

Amy Poe I'm aiming for 75 this year, hopefully I'll make it. If I can finish the books on my nightstand, I would have a good start. :-)

message 22: by Cait (new)

Cait (clickcait) | 480 comments I think I set mine at 65. I read about 64 last year and some of the books for the challenge are short enough to squeeze in an extra one during the week. I've not got 65 slots left in my book journal though, hehe so if I don't quite make it I won't be too disappointed.

message 23: by Kayleigh (new)

Kayleigh (itskayleigh) | 3 comments I'm aiming for 100. I've managed to successfully up my total each year, through some dedicated 'me-time' and holidays. I was bought a personalised book journal this year so I'm aiming to write better reviews and thoughts as I go along.

I managed 91 last year and 75 the year before. I may adjust throughout the year however.

message 24: by Saara (new)

Saara (lamiena) | 32 comments Even 52 is not entirely realistic if I look at previous years, but I also need to read quite a few books not on my challenge list for uni. So...I think I'm probably looking at something like 70 and hoping like hell I can pull it off!

.•*¨`*•✿ ✿•*¨`*•. Christine .•*¨`*•✿ ✿•*¨`*• I put my goal the same as last year - 225. I surpassed it last year by 77 books, but I want to be realistic in case thing come up with kids.

message 26: by Jukka (new)

Jukka Särkijärvi (nitessine) | 28 comments 100. Been able to pull it off these past couple of years, should be able to pull it off this year. With the rate I keep acquiring books, I pretty much have to read at this pace or I'll be completely swamped.

message 27: by Patty (new)

Patty Rose (pattyrose31) 75 is my goal, but I'm sure I'll read more than that. I read a lot of non-fiction for work as well.

message 28: by Adriana (new)

Adriana Pereira (adrianacecilia) Jessica wrote: "I picked 60 but I may up it. I'm enjoying finding some short stories to read. Not sure if they should really count, though."

Of course they do! Ehehe. Last year I had to change my goal from 25 to 35 because I was reading short stories like crazy.
My goal right now is set to 50 since there are a couple books I'll be re-reading that I've already rated. But even that number is extremely high compared to what I've read in previous years. I hope some day I can read so many books in a year as some of you do!

message 29: by Caleb (new)

Caleb (irishmac473) I'm going to just shoot for the 52. That'd be the most I've ever read in a year.

message 30: by Johnny (new)

Johnny Carruthers (johnnycarruthers) | 6 comments In 2013 and 2014, my goal was 40 books. This year, I've decided to increase it a little -- to 50 books.

Since I'm rapidly devouring this series (they're short, about 30 pages each) ...

The Wicked + The Divine #1 (The Wicked + The Divine, #1) by Kieron Gillen The Wicked + The Divine #2 (The Wicked + The Divine, #2) by Kieron Gillen The Wicked + The Divine #3 (The Wicked + The Divine, #3) by Kieron Gillen The Wicked + The Divine #4 (The Wicked + The Divine, #4) by Kieron Gillen The Wicked + The Divine #5 (The Wicked + The Divine, #5) by Kieron Gillen The Wicked + The Divine #6 (The Wicked + The Divine, #6) by Kieron Gillen

I think I'm going to have to up my number in the interst of fairness, haha. GoodReads counts each comic as one book.

message 32: by Tanya (new)

Tanya (xallroyx21) | 55 comments I am trying to hit 104-two a week. If I read the challenge book and one other I can make it. I usually read 100, but this past year I dipped in the 60s.

message 33: by Ireene (new)

Ireene | 36 comments I am trying to read also 100 books. Last year I read 57 and it wasn't much of an effort. I know I'll have time for more if I spend less time on Facebook or watch less TV-shows.

message 34: by Kayla (new)

Kayla | 28 comments My goal is 116-one per month for book club, then two per week for this challenge and the Rory Gilmore challenge. :) to be honest, I doubt I'll make it, but I'm definitely going to try.

message 35: by [deleted user] (new)

I put 50 but that is a stretch for me because I couldnt finish 35 last year. But I am making it a priority to read and write more this year.

message 36: by Guy (new)

Guy | 37 comments Reading through these goals I'm thinking I must be a really slow reader. I generally average about 50. In 2014 I had to read three books in the last week of the year to make it. I'm going to do my best to meet the challenge of 52. Since my week one choice is 946 pages I'm behind from the start. I will surely read a few that don't fit any weekly category so I'm thinking 60 is realistic. Wish me luck.

What is the Rory Gilmore challenge?

message 38: by Danielle (new)

Danielle I have exams this year, so I'm planning on giving mysef two weeks leeway - goal of 50 books!

The Rory Gilmore Challenge, Johnny, is a challenge in which participants try to read every book that is mentioned/seen to have been read by the character Rory Gilmore on Gilmore Girls. Rory was a voracious reader and the list contains a number of the most influential and highly recognized books known to readerkind. You can see a list here:

Rory Gilmore Challenge

.•*¨`*•✿ ✿•*¨`*•. Christine .•*¨`*•✿ ✿•*¨`*• I've only read about 10 books on that Gilmore challenge. Looking at the books, there's probably not many more I'm interested in reading. I'm not one for classic books.

message 41: by EllenZReads (new)

EllenZReads Last year I read at least 100 books (I didn't always add them to Goodreads, I figured out my number by looking at my library reading history as that is where I get most of my books). But many were mysteries or fast reads--for our reading challenge I have chosen some classics and more difficult reads, so I am aiming for at least 52...and hopefully a few side reads. So many books, so little time!

message 42: by Charity (last edited Jan 06, 2015 06:26PM) (new)

Charity (faeryrebel78) I did 75/100 in 2013 and 104/100 in 2014 so I set my goal for this year at 100. Now that I'm reading some classic and longer books for the challenge I'm not sure if I will hit that or not.

message 43: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Barstad (maidenoflight) I had set my goal for 50 before I joined the amazing group. Guess i'm going to be exceeding that goal by a little bit now...

message 44: by Fiona (new)

Fiona | 1 comments I've set mine for 100 this year, to start with. Last year I started with 100 as well and then upped it several times as I reached my targets. I ended up reading 200. (Past years I read 129, and 111, but I'm not sure I can beat 200 now!)

I agree--I chose some skipped classics and more difficult reads for the challenge, so not sure how much "extra" I'll be doing...well, who am I kidding? I am always reading about three or four things at once...why should this year be any different, right?

message 46: by Debra (new)

Debra Barstad well when I set my goal I believe that I had put 25 but I am sure that I will be adding more to it

message 47: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (thismommareads) I put my goal as 50. Last year I was 40 and surpassed that goal...but didn't quite make it to 50.

message 48: by Anne (new)

Anne Mey I set my goal at 70, last year i read more than 70 books because i started putting comic books on the list as well. I intend to achieve the 52 books challenge, the rest will be comic books for the most part I believe.

message 49: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (jessicas_library_card) | 24 comments I set mine at 50, but I hope to read more - I didn't read nearly enough last year!

message 50: by Sonya (new)

Sonya Ball I plan to read 50 to 52 books this year. I just started on my third book, that was before I found this group. I tackled the Hunger Games trilogy to start out with this year - I've always wanted to read them and I'm on the last one now. That means I'm right on track for the number of books, but I'm off on the list a bit. I checked out that Gilmore list too, and I really wanted to try it, so I think I'm going to try to choose from those books this year. Wish me luck!
