Jan 01, 2015 to Mar 31, 2015
Levels
Easy: 1- 3 books
Medium: 4 – 6 books
Hard: 7-9 books
Extreme: All 11 books
1. Read a new book published in 2015:
2. Read a new-to-you author:
3. Read a book that involves aliens:
4. Read a book in which the main character travels outside of their usual location: For example, a character that usually works in the city travels to the countryside, or a character travels to another country/planet/dimension.
5. Finally read that book you didn’t get around to last year:
6. Read a book that you already own or one that you borrow from the library or a friend:
7. Read a book that one of your Goodreads friends gave four or five stars:
8. Cover hunt: Read a book that features both a man and a woman on the cover
9. Cover hunt: Read a book that features an animal on the cover
10. Letter hunt: Read a book in which the first letter of the title or the first letter of the author’s first or last name can be found in the words “Happy New Year”.
11. Number hunt: Because it’s 2015, read a book that is either the second, first, or fifth in a series.
When you've completed a book for the challenge, please come back to this thread and post a NEW comment so we can see how everyone is doing.
Optional: If you’d like to share your opinion of a book, you can copy and paste this heart or star and add it to your posts: ❤ ★ Or even offer a brief statement about the book.
For example:
Book X by Author Y – Jan09 ★★★★
Book D by Author F – Mar 15 ★★
Book Z by Author Z – Feb 17 ★★★★★
◆As always, all formats are accepted (print, ebook, audio) and rereads are fine as long as you read the entire book and not just skim it.
◆Any genre is acceptable unless specifically stated otherwise.
◆You can change your list or level at any time or just make it up as you go along.
Questions? Just ask.

Your goal: 7 to 38 books, depending on your level
Duration: January 1 – December 31, 2015 (Honestly, I originally designed this to be an open-ended challenge that would take however long you need to complete it. So if December rolls around and we’re still not done, we could roll it over into next year.)
The rules:
-This challenge is divided into four parts. You may choose to do all parts or only one, two or three parts.
-The books may be from any genre, unless specified otherwise in a category.
-Re-reads are allowed as are books used for other challenges.
-You may post your list up front or as you go and you may make changes as you go.
Choose your level:
Fingerpaint – Any one part
Watercolor – Any two parts
Acrylic – Any three parts
Oil – All four parts
PART ONE ~ 7 books
Roy G. Biv is an acronym for the order of colors in a rainbow. For each letter, read a book in which the title, series name, or author’s name (first or last) begins with that letter
R:
O:
Y:
G:
B:
I:
V:
PART TWO ~ 8 books
Read a book with a cover that predominantly matches each color.
Red:
Orange:
Yellow:
Green:
Blue:
Purple:
Black:
White:
PART THREE ~ 12 books (2 for each color)
Red
1. Red is the international color for stop.
Read the last book in a series or trilogy. (The most recent release in an ongoing series will also count.)
2. Red is an auspicious color for marriage. Brides in India and Nepal wear red saris; in Japan, a red kimono symbolizes happiness and good luck.
Read a book in which a wedding takes place OR there is a wedding themed item in the title or on the cover.
Yellow
1. In Japan, yellow often represents courage.
Read a book featuring a kick-butt female character.
2. Yellow is the color most often associated with the deity in many religions (Hinduism and Ancient Egypt)
Read a book including a god, gods, or god-like characters or the people who worship them.
Blue
1. Blue is the #1 favorite color of all people.
Read a book from one of your favorite series.
2. Blue jeans are worn all over the world and a dark blue suit is professional business attire.
Read a book with a denim-clad character on the cover OR a sharp businessman in the story.
Green
1. Green is universally associated with nature.
Read a book with characters trying to protect/preserve wildlife or nature OR read a book with a character that can control or influence nature (This could include anything from controlling weather, making plants grow, or communicating with animals).
2. Traffic lights are green all over the world.
Read the first book in a new-to-you series.
Purple
1. Among Mediterranean people, purple was reserved for emperors and popes. The Japanese christened it “Imperial Purple”
Read a book featuring a character who is a member of royalty OR with a royal title in the title or series name. For example: (queen, prince, duke, emperor, raja, etc.)
2. Purple is the color of mourning or death in many cultures (U.K., Italy, Thailand, Brazil)
Read a book in which a character dies.
Orange
1. Orange is the color of life rafts, hazard cones, and high visibility police vests.
Read a book featuring a police officer or a book in which a character’s life is saved.
2. The middle traffic light is orange in France.
Read a “middle” book in any series (any book other than the first or last/most recent release)
PART FOUR ~ 7 books
And finally, read a book in which a primary character’s name (first or last) begins with each letter:
R:
A:
I:
N:
B:
O:
W:
BONUS TIME ~ 3 books
You can read these books in addition to the ones above or you may use them to replace up to three books from above. For example, if you’re having trouble finding a book for the “I” in Roy G Biv but you have one with a rainbow on the cover, you could use the bonus rainbow cover in place of the “I”.
Bonus item #1: A book with a rainbow on the cover.
Bonus item #2: A book with the word rainbow, rain, or bow in the title.
Bonus item #3: A book that you’re ‘tickled pink’ to read.
