If you could spend one more day with someone that you loved who has died, what would happen?
This is the question Mitch Albom answers when Chick Benetto gets to spend one more day with his mother. Do we discover the real them, and come to understand the family secrets that parents hide to protect us? Do we look for forgiveness, explanations, reasons for what we remember?
Not my favourite Albom book, I prefer Tuesdays with Morrie and The Five People You Meet in Heaven, but still a very readable, well written book. Always thought provoking and heart warming, Albom's books look at life, death, and the love in between.
For One More Day is about the love of a mother for her child , and the child, now grown, starting to understand the value of the relationship he had with her. The unconditional love of the mother forgiving everything, and guiding him back to an appreciation of life and loved ones.
If you could go back and spend one more day with someone you have lost, who would it be with, and what could they say that would change everything? Thought provoking and skillfully handled, Mitch Albom certainly gives you pause for thought.
