beth So a few people cried. It was and is a moving, touching, inspiring, story.

What I want to know is... so did you do anything different as a result? Look at his website? Write your senator? Volunteer? Or just pick up the next book on your night stand?

Leslie I was so moved by Valentino's story I looked at his website and got involved with sponsoring a person in Africa to help with their healthcare and education. I haven't written my Senator. Yet. What did you do after reading this book?

Kelly thoroughly went through his website to see what I could do to contribute, and am adding it to the list of charities to review for donations this year. an amazing story.

Jamie I just started reading the book, but I do plan on writing to my senator, (who hopefully will not soon be our president) John McCain. Happily, my district's rep scored an "A+" on darfurscores.com, I'll be writing to him to encourage him to keep up the good work :). I have donated to Valentino's organization, as well. Its nice to know that on top of this, the book's proceeds go to aiding the Sudanese-- so everyone that has purchased their copy HAS contributed.

Kevin I started working with one of the Lost Boys of Sudan in Fargo to make a documentary. I went to Sudan with him; we now have non-profit status and are trying to raise money to build an orphanage in his home village. http://africansoulamericanheart.org

Noemie Great question, and interesting answers here. I also wondered what to do.
I went to the web site, read all the updates. I also bought a stack of new copies of the book to give away, and provide some funding to the foundation (as do all profits from the book sales).

Kellie I am telling everyone about his website. I am buying his book for a lot of my friends. I'm posting a Google book tour interview on Facebook. I'm also going to donate time and money. I've signed up for several newsletters and added my name to volunteer databases. This is the first time I've been motivated to act instead of using it as catharsis and moving on.

Robin I have been to several of the towns in Sudan mentioned in the book. The book was alive for me because I have talked with people in Sudan who lived it. I also visited the web site. Visit mine if you want to see some pictures of Sudan. www.upperroommed.org It is good to hear so many were affected by the book!

Blair I work for an international development organization supporting our operations in Southern Sudan. I loved this book - even more so, I think, because I could contextualize it all so clearly. I encourage anyone here with the will to do something for Southern Sudan to contact their elected representatives, give money to organizations working there (like those on the website) and read/watch more about this issue - IN THAT ORDER.

I particularly enjoyed the documentary "God Grew Tired of Us." Check it out.

Ari I'm just glad that there is a book out there that is inspiring people to view the situation in Darfur from a more personal standpoint and to try to help resolve the conflict there. I am still on a waiting list for What is the What, but I've blogged about Darfur for the past two years, and have also written 6 letters to president Al Bashir personally asking him to stop the violence. I have written to many senators re the problem, not just my own, and sent a letter to Gov. Richardson of NM, who is a real stand up guy, and who has been working on a personal level to end the genocide there. I hope that people will continue to stand up and speak out; both to their own government, the UN, and the government of Sudan.

Blair This book isn't really about the situation in Darfur. The Darfuri debacle is related to that in Southern Sudan, but the two have a lot of important differences.

Robin I just got the book "god grew tired of us" have not read it yet but getting ready to start it!

Nancy Yes, I did do something when I finished this book. I ordered twelve more copies, and I've been giving them to people I know and asking them to read it...
It's an incredible book, and everyone should be required to read it, especially Americans...

Brynna I checked out Valentino's website and will definitely make a contribution.

Aaron I picked up a new book.
