Hellooo and welcome to Wheel-a-Ton V!

Yes, yes, I cannot believe it myself that this is already the 5th edition of WaT - time flies, when you're having fun :-)

Our theme this year is quite simply this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=11GYv...

I am Eldarwen and I will be your captain on this trip. I have been doing team challenges for what seems like half an eternity in the meantime haha.

Please post a link to your shelf when you swing by the thread and say hello to the team! There are quite a few of us this time around, some familiar, some not.

Please read the rules carefully.
For the veterans, not much has changed, but at least a quick glance will not be amiss.
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask! We don't bite! (Or well, I usually don't. I cannot speak for Megan.. ;-))

Sooo! Who here has read the Shannara books?

message 12: by Elen (new)

Elen | 1273 comments Hi everyone!
I'm Elen from Estonia. I think it's my 3rd or 4th time playing Wheel. Really excited to start the game - can't wait anymore 😅

I haven't read books, but I have seen TV show :p

Shelf: wheel-v-2020‎

Oh... that smiley.... I'm not sure that's a good sign?? ;-)

Eta: I meant for the show... (It was clear in my head hehe.)

Megan | 1607 comments Hello all,

I'm Megan, from the UK. I'll be assisting Eldarwen in this challenge. This is my 3rd time playing Wheel, I think.. I've participated in Towers and Uno a few times before too so I'm like Eldarwen pretty well versed in team challenges now.

Any questions let me know!

My Shelf is Wheel-a-thon2020

Amanda (writers_soul) | 426 comments Hi! I’m Amanda from Michigan, USA. This is my first Wheelathon and I have done one towers challenge (last year) and the floor is lava which I loved both! I’ve never even heard of this book 😂 I’m excited to do this challenge with you all!

Kristina Simon (kristinasimon) | 121 comments Hi everyone!

I'm Kristina, from the US (Florida). I've played other team challenges on GRs, but this will be my first time playing Wheel. I've stalked the Wheel chat during the last round and caved when I saw it offered again. ;-)

I haven't read the Shannara books but they look like something I might enjoy. My reading interests have started trending toward more towards sci-fi and fantasy, mostly pulled in by the Murderbot series and Seanan McGuire/Mira Grant. My main genre is still mystery/thriller, though.

My shelf: wheelathon-v

Hello and welcome! :-)

Amanda, if you've loved Towers and Lava, you'll enjoy this one as well. And there's even a little less to wrap your head around hehe.

Kristina, I'm glad to see you caved! :-p

message 18: by Monica (new)

Monica (nutz4reading) Hello all! I am Monica! I have played Wheel and Tower before. I took a break for awhile from challenges but I saw Wheel again and decided I wanted to get back to. Hopefully this will help me get some books read this year.

I have not read the Shannara books. I will have to check them out. I am currently enjoying The Stephanie Plum Series.

Here is the link to my shelf:

Hi all! I'm Cyndee and I'm in the US (Ohio). This will be my first time playing Wheel, but I was along for the ride with The Floor is Lava, and the latest rounds of Uno and Tower Teams. :) I'm excited to see what this one is all about.

My shelf can be found here: Wheel V

Hello hello everyone! :-)

Wow, #27 on the Plum series already?! How many books is she intending to write ;-) I still cannot remember where I stopped... around book 12, ish, maybe?

Megan | 1607 comments Welcome guys!

If anyone is interested I've linked BOMs that we can get some extra points for here I'll be reading both of them can't say either really would be something I'd pick up usually but points are points!

I have hear mixed reviews about this series. Some like it and some don't. I am enjoying it. I wonder how many there actually are....

I will have to see if I have either one in my possession and if not see if I can borrow them electronically from my library.

I'm still unsure about Five Feet Apart - it sounds like it could be good, but could also turn veeeery mushy and teenage-angsty. But the cover is so pretty! :-)

message 26: by Eni (new)

Eni | 2349 comments oh wow the teams are huge! =D

Hi everyone! I'm from Portugal (Europe). I lost count on how many team challenges I've done here on NBRC, so yeah you could say I'm a veteran lol. I haven't read anything since begining of August of last year, so it's been a while :( but i'm excited to start this challenge! And there's a few books I've been wanting to read.

As for the The Sword of Shannara, I've seen it around netflix, but I haven't picked it up. And I haven't read the books either.

My challenge shelf is wheel_v_2020.

And i'm planning to start with In the After, which is tagged as bacteria and works for at least task 62 and 67.

Hopefully the reading mojo will come right back now that you're participating in wheel! Also, you cannot let Sonia win. Isn't that motivation enough to get reading? ;-)

Awesome on the bacteria book!!

Whoops. Actually, it's #26: Twisted Twenty-Six -- I lost interest for a while, too. But then I found the audio versions on my library website. They're fun to listen to. I can go though them like popcorn. LOL It looks like #27 is set for release in November and, so far, that's it.

I'm torn between taking offense or just say in your dreams!

:)

Let's just say that Sonia is having some unexpected troubles with the fact that, for the first time ever, she can't control a single thing on a team challenge.

True... However, Sonia's tasks at work are about to change and the new ones can be done whilst listening to audiobooks.

message 32: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Also, I was browsing amazon and discovered that Midnight Sun was finally written.

I don't know what it says about me, that I almost hit the pre-order button.

The only thing that stopped me is the price. Seriously? 14 euros for a kindle book? I don't care about the size, is just too much.

I've read it. It's a very mushy teenage book. The topic little bit reminded The Fault in Our Stars, but wasn't as good

Well, then, let's see what I've got lying around on my pile that fits with the tags required for this challenge.

I have a pile of books on my dining room table and they're most all books I've been meaning to read or books I want to read now and I'm slowly working my way through it.

On there, we have:

Nevernight - tagged poison 2 times
Dawn Study - tagged poison 1 time (with a useful Y character)

I have a few options for games and a few for turkey, all of which aren't on my immediate reading plan, so not listing them, except for this one:

Sword of Destiny - tagged games (can't remember the number of times) with a useful Y character

I think I'm going to start with Dawn Study as it's the most useful one :-)

Stacey | 897 comments Ok, I have what feels like a newbie question. For the book 'tags' what is the best way to find that out?

Stacey wrote: "Ok, I have what feels like a newbie question. For the book 'tags' what is the best way to find that out?"

The tags are the shelves/genres listed on the home page of a book on the right hand side (on a computer, not on the app).

An easy way of finding particular tags is this: https://www.goodreads.com/shelf/show/...

And you replace the last word without whatever it is you're looking for. Poison, Bacteria, Games, etc etc.
Should the tag you're looking for be comprised of two words, the space will be replaced with a hypen.

--> as en example: https://www.goodreads.com/shelf/show/...

Kristina Simon (kristinasimon) | 121 comments I think I'm going to start with The Great Railway Bazaar by Paul Theroux - tagged Turkey -- works for G, P, or T in the spell out

message 48: by [deleted user] (last edited Jun 07, 2020 10:17AM) (new)

I'll think start with The Night Circus, tagged "games" by 16. Works for N, T, C, I, E, or P.

message 49: by Kristina Simon (new)

Kristina Simon (kristinasimon) | 121 comments Eldarwen - are you and Megan going to update the spreadsheet? Or should we do it ourselves? It's "view only" at this point.
