I definitely support the idea of quality over quantity. We like to use that 50 number because it's a nice goal and a nice, round number, but really, who wants to read junk just to achieve a frivolous goal? The important thing is that you're enjoying what you're reading, not that you read x books in y timeframe.

Good luck with your 36 longer/deeper/better books! :)

Thanks Tiffany :) I agree: 50 is such a nice number, and I'm really proud of the times I've achieved it, but sometimes you just want to sit back and enjoy a book without the pressure of getting it read so you can move on to the next one. And sometimes you need to pause between books, too, so you can really appreciate what you've just read.

Hayley (applesticker) Book 1: Looking for Alaska by John Green

Date Finished: 08.01.15
Rating: 5/5
Number of pages: 272
Total pages this year: 272

A great read to start the start. Funny, sad, insightful, gripping. Classic John Green - his first, perhaps, though definitely his most well-known - had great characters, witty dialogue, and deep moment that really make you think. The plot was a little predictable in places, yet surprised me in others, and overall just great.

I got this as a freebie for a review. A good read, good plot that went a little to fast, with a love story that didn't fit at all. But interesting concepts, and good world building.

A nice read, good world building to create a new and interesting race. The main characters were good, though the side characters could have used a bit more dimension. Overall the storyline was good, but predicable at times.

Took a while to get through this one, but still a good read. A good range of stories, some more interesting than others, but all with a mystical twist.

A great magical love story. Well-told and well-written. A bit predictaible on some plot points, but good romance/sex scenes. Looking forward to the next one.

A nice idea, but not very well written. Too many little mistakes and bad flow in general. And the whole ADHD angle was very badly done.

A good read, a little better for having read the little prequel. Perhaps a little unbelievable at times, and the side characters could have done with more work, but all-round a good read and a good start to a series.

Poorly written, but a decent story-line. Kept me guessing and turning those pages. The characters were fairly carbon-copy cops, though, and could have done with some unique personality traits of just something different from the normal for these things.

A great read! Long, but worth it. Loved the world-building in particular, so much effort and some really original ideas. Can't wait to see what happens in part 2!
