Tell us about the books you are reading for the Full Deck Challenge here

message 2: by Pink (new)

Pink 4 books so far. Cranford and 13 Reasons Why, which I also crossed off my dusty book challenge. I've also read January's book choice Jerusalem, though didn't quite finish it as this one wasn't for me. My best read has been Do No Harm: Stories of Life, Death and Brain Surgery which I thoroughly recommend.

message 3: by Trine (new)

Trine (majjalol) | 203 comments Gotten 3 books down atm - and 2 of them was already on my TBR-list, so it was nice^^
I got Life of Pi down for the filmed book + Fever Dream for the library - as I already had it packed for the vacation. For the last one, animal onfront i got Vingede kræ by Michael Lycke (a fly is some kind of animal, right, right?) - one I found cheap at the airport (+ all the money from it goes to children with heart diseases = winwin!
trying to put in books on my tbr/other challenges, so I can read more and complete more lists^^

message 4: by Jason (new)

Jason (jasondenness) | 1877 comments That's what I have been doing Trine my tbr list is pretty big so it has been easy to find books that fit in.

So far I have only finished one book, The Little Android it is a short book from the cinder series so fills the under 100 pages slot nicely.

message 5: by [deleted user] (new)

I've read "The Picture of Dorian Grey" as the January Viper's Book Choice. Enjoyed this one, but the second half much more than the first.

Now half way through Susan Hill's "Howard's End is on the Landing" as my library choice.

Both these are also counting towards the Dusty Shelf challenge.

I am also a couple of chapters into Haruki Murakami's "1Q84" which is my book translated into my language. This one has started off brilliantly.

message 6: by Jason (new)

Jason (jasondenness) | 1877 comments Oooooooh I really want to read 1Q84, pretty long book isn't it?

message 7: by [deleted user] (new)

it's split into 3 if you wanted to read it in smaller chunks!

message 8: by Paul (new)

Paul (halfmanhalfbook) | 5463 comments Mod
You've just finished War and Peace Jason, it is going to be shorter than that, surely?

message 9: by [deleted user] (new)

You should get a medal for completing War and Peace. How was it?

Jason (jasondenness) | 1877 comments It's brilliant Charlotte, looking for an epic to read after I finish don Quixote.

Paul (halfmanhalfbook) | 5463 comments Mod
Have read A Buzz in the Meadow and Life Story: Many Lives, One Epic Journey so far. Currently reading The Bookshop Book, which is brilliant.

message 12: by Jackie (new)

Jackie | 12 comments I'm spending too much time deciding what to put in my challenge, when I should be actually reading. I'm 1 book behind already according to the virtual librarian!

Any suggestions for the graphic novel? Have to say this is also a genre I avoid but I don't want to cheat and count it for both. Will prob opt for a sci-fi as that's another one I never read.

Currently enjoying The Tenderness of Wolves as my book with an animal on the cover. Dipping in and out of the Omnivore's Dilemma as my book with a food theme. It's interesting reading but not exactly edge-of-my-seat stuff.

message 13: by Jackie (new)

Jackie | 12 comments Oh, just found the full-deck-challenge lists page which will give me lots of ideas!

Can I copy and paste the blank list from somewhere to save me typing it all out? More time for reading then ;)

message 14: by Trine (new)

Trine (majjalol) | 203 comments I just copied it aswell, and started to fill it out..
I really liked the V for Vendetta for a starter novel - but I agree - reading what other people are doing, helps ALOT!

There is a link to a spreadsheet on the challenge Jackie, https://www.goodreads.com/challenges/...

message 16: by Jackie (new)

Jackie | 12 comments Thanks Paul. I've just copied and pasted someone else's list which was still blank! Presumably I just go back in to my list and edit it from time to time?

Must go and read now…..

Ulysses?

message 20: by Jason (new)

Jason (jasondenness) | 1877 comments My plan was to do a couple books by Dickens, not sure which yet though.

Or Infinite Jest Jason?

message 22: by Jason (new)

Jason (jasondenness) | 1877 comments Yes, infinite Jest is on my to read list but I don't own a copy.

How about Proust, Jason? I have the first book of Remembrance of Things Past... the whole thing is massive!

message 24: by Trine (new)

Trine (majjalol) | 203 comments Got another free choice (think i'll use quite a bit more of those on these books with Pendergast) + The Witches for the childhood one^^ Not as good as I remember it;o

Jackie, you could try one of the books from The Sandman by Neil Gaiman for graphic novel if you can get it from the library. It is hugely acclaimed. I'd love to read it but alas the library have 'lost' their copies and the full set on Amazon is nearly £100... I think Paul has this on his tbr list too.

message 26: by Paul (new)

Paul (halfmanhalfbook) | 5463 comments Mod
I am reading the first one at the moment Lisa

message 27: by Jason (new)

Jason (jasondenness) | 1877 comments I have read most of the sandman, Lucifer and Constantine ones, the best series so far has been Lucifer, amazing plot.

I have some proust on my tbr list. One day. haha

message 28: by [deleted user] (new)

I absolutely adore Sandman. I was lucky enough to have a friend with the full collection who lent them to me.

Lucky you, Charlotte! Well I have a significant birthday coming up this month so maybe I can justify treating myself...

message 30: by Paul (new)

Paul (halfmanhalfbook) | 5463 comments Mod
21st Lisa?

message 31: by Jason (new)

Jason (jasondenness) | 1877 comments You guessing her age or the date of her birthday? hehe

message 32: by Jason (new)

Jason (jasondenness) | 1877 comments Finished my second book. Brave New World brilliant story and a must read for everybody.

Paul (halfmanhalfbook) | 5463 comments Mod
I thought it was very good too Jason

message 34: by Jason (new)

Jason (jasondenness) | 1877 comments I am now on track with me challenge, woohoo.

message 35: by [deleted user] (new)

I really enjoyed Brave New World. I think I need to read it again

message 36: by Jason (new)

Jason (jasondenness) | 1877 comments Charlotte wrote: "I really enjoyed Brave New World. I think I need to read it again"

Have you read 1984?

message 37: by [deleted user] (new)

Yes. Loved that one too

message 38: by Jason (new)

Jason (jasondenness) | 1877 comments I have just started Fahrenheit 451 which is another one you're Supposed to read alongside 1984 and brave new world.

message 39: by [deleted user] (new)

That's on my list for this year! I've fit it into all my challenges - it's been on my kindle for ages

message 40: by Jason (new)

Jason (jasondenness) | 1877 comments Are there any others that should be read or is it just these three?

message 41: by Paul (new)

message 42: by Jason (new)

Jason (jasondenness) | 1877 comments Cheers Paul, I was going to read that but decided on Fahrenheit 451 instead. A clockwork orange next then I think.

message 43: by [deleted user] (new)

Have you read "The Unit" by Ninni Holmqvist?

message 44: by Jason (new)

Jason (jasondenness) | 1877 comments Charlotte wrote: "Have you read "The Unit" by Ninni Holmqvist?"

Nope, have now added it to my tbr list. cheers

message 45: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (mrswhams) | 730 comments Mod
I loved Brave New World too. It's different to Orwell but no less powerful IMO.

message 46: by Jason (new)

Jason (jasondenness) | 1877 comments 3rd book finished, all diamonds so far. The Living Mountain wonderful book, one of the books I spotted Paul adding to his list.

message 47: by [deleted user] (new)

It's a good one Jason.

message 48: by Gidget (new)

Gidget (glknowles) | 28 comments The Martian was the first book I finished for this challenge. I LOVED it! It was very funny (could be used as a Joker but I used it as one of my Free Choices) and interesting too. A quick read for anyone looking for something different.

message 49: by Jason (new)

Jason (jasondenness) | 1877 comments Woohoo I have got my graphic novel for the full deck challenge.

The Discworld Graphic Novels: The Colour of Magic & The Light Fantastic

Really looking for to this.

message 50: by Pink (new)

Pink I've also read my graphic novel book for this challenge - The Encyclopedia of Early Earth which I really enjoyed.

I finished The Color Purple this week as well, so have now crossed that off the 'books made into a film' category.

6 down, 48 to go!

By the way, I love all the classic dystopian books mentioned above, 1984, A clockwork Orange, Fahrenheit 451, but my favourite was probably Brave New World. Has anyone here read We? I've heard very good things about it, but haven't tried it yet?
