I thought it was time we had a place to chat besides in the welcome thread! Here you can discuss anything from Harry Potter to manatee memes.... if you haven't seen the calming manatee memes yet you seriously should look them up.... just saying!

message 2: by Chris (new)

Chris (straw10) Don't know about the calming manatees... But I did feel compelled to watch HP 2 and 4 multiple times as they have been on HBO constantly...

message 3: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh I didn't see that! I don't watch much TV at the moment.. I am mostly on netflix.

message 4: by Chris (new)

Chris (straw10) I have a link to a funny albeit slightly R-rated (maybe PG13 on a good day) link about what if Hermione was the main character.

message 5: by [deleted user] (new)

post it! It was hilarious!

message 8: by [deleted user] (new)

hahahahaha the best!

ahhhh I think I just did something terrible: in the good reads group crazy for young adult books a guy wrote this:

For some stupid reason I have always avoided being anywhere near the YA oriented people and consequent market. Tenny-boppers; an equivalent term when I was a teen a half century ago were retards to be avoided.

Today, completely fucked with empty-stomach wine, I think YA just another marketing category, the reality young people who now know as much as they ever will; any further details acquired a tribute to doubt.

The moderator's choice of books is definitely skewed toward the commercially successful; two of which are worthwhile. But, "Divergent?" come on. At its kindly construed best it is a poorly written regurgitation of that which has been commonplace since we started recording history; maybe a revelation in the mentally challenged section of the boondocks.

So, where am I going? Six feet under, just like you. As the dark clouds enclose, I'll be thinking of my innocent, thinking otherwise, high school years and hope the magic won't depart for you.

This f****** computer will acknowledge this with some sort of mechanized welcome. Its a laugh. Its a coldness. Its a fart. Live with it. The machine so controls that you will never again be allowed to speak with another human without intervention and perhaps a milder word; censorship; a harsher word; annihilation, but not in the hopeful Eastern sense.

I'm rambling and it could get much worse. I want to stop. My self-serving problem, no doubt. ......... I could go on if I knew where I was. You, under thirties need no further explanation. I will find it simultaneously funny and sad when I'm welcomed to this group in a standardized post.

Hey, kids. The best moment is when the big deal gives a mandatorially attended speech where he extolls all his life acumen; and the fat kid farts.

So i replied with this:

Dear Edward,

I am terribly sorry that you never fit in as a child and had the "retarded" children, as you like to call them, bully you or mistreat you in some way. It must have been terrible. Truly I am sorry.

Now that you are grown up and deciding to bully the next generation in the same way as you were, I implore you to get a f****** life. It is very pitiful to see someone who is over thirty waste their time writing terribly written paragraphs to teenagers.

I don't know what you think you area accomplishing here but I feel bad for you. I assume you have no lady friends or friends of any sort for that matter to preoccupy your time in a beneficial way.

Its terrible that you feel the need to criticize a generation of books that have actually helped children and teenagers alike build a passion for books. What this world needs is more readers of any sort and what you need is help.

message 11: by [deleted user] (new)

Did I just do a terrible thing??? I was so angry someone was dissing my favorite genera! Do you think he is going to make me pay in some way?

message 12: by Chris (new)

Chris (straw10) Not at all... Just a curmudgeon that thinks that just because people enjoy YA, that they wouldn't or don't read the "classics"... Just an uninformed person that likely yells at the neighborhood kids to get off his lawn... I'm not a teeny bopper but a professional who is just on the bad side of 40 with children who adore YA and read a ton of every style because of it.

message 13: by [deleted user] (new)

Ya I agree completely! But the moderators of the group just wanted to report him so I deleted my message for them.

message 14: by [deleted user] (new)

message 18: by [deleted user] (new)

Matt Smith is my fave doctor. I am all caught up. I've seen every single episode. Old and new. I like Capaldi, Tennant, and Tom Baker. Can't wait for season 9!!!!!!!

message 19: by [deleted user] (new)

I am so excited to be a mod! yay!!

message 20: by [deleted user] (new)

Yes, everyone welcome Grace as our newest Moderator! she is going to help me get this group up and running better and hopefully bring in more members to bring exposure to all of you wonderful new authors!

message 21: by [deleted user] (new)

Yep! I love reading!! I love goodreads!! What would I do without it? I have read many books and also am searching for the next Harry Potter

message 22: by Alexander (new)

Alexander Draganov (darthsparhawk) For myself, I have already found the next HP with the Percy Jackson series :-)
But I love reading books, Middle Grade, YA, Epic Fantasy, scifi, the occasional thriller or horror - if it is interesting and not mundane, I read it :-)

message 23: by [deleted user] (new)

Me too @Alexander

message 24: by [deleted user] (new)

so Grace and I were thinking of ways to get people to participate more in voting and just in general. We were thinking of having the four HP houses and we would sort people into them by their pottermore house. Then people can earn points for their houses by voting and by participating in general. We could even think up some more contests as well.

What do you guys think?

message 25: by [deleted user] (new)

It will be fun!!

message 26: by [deleted user] (new)

Is anyone reading the books from February? I am almost finished with both and will start discussing them more thoroughly once I am done!

message 27: by [deleted user] (new)

Okay so I was thinking one of the reason's why people were not interacting and reading the books were that the deadlines to read them were to long. I am making book reads 2 months long now. What do you guys think about that?

message 28: by Chris (new)

Chris (straw10) Sure... I've been in a lull with my work hours and shuttling the kiddies to their sports, etc... Working at it... Next month frees up...

message 29: by [deleted user] (new)

So I am super sorry I haven't been very active lately. However, I think I have come up with an amazing way to get people to be more active and more interested in our group! Authors, it is also going to be a way to get members of this group to get the word out about your book!

I am super excited about this change and think everyone here will like it as well! This change will be up for everyone to see next week and will be put into place by the next voting/contest!

message 30: by [deleted user] (new)

Alright the change has happened! Check out the quidditch topic for a super cool contest!

message 31: by [deleted user] (new)

I have not been active lately either. But I am back

message 32: by [deleted user] (new)

Hey Grace! No worries! I think the main thing we need to be doing right now is trying to get more active people involved in the group! Perhaps talking to people from other groups would help?

We should start advertising the free give away and contest to people!

message 33: by [deleted user] (new)

TO everyone:

Things are getting hectic in my life and I am learning to say no and let go to things. I usually take on to many things in my life and I am trying not to do that.

I am cutting back on my online presence to actually get some real writing done and pursue my dream of becoming a yoga instructor!

I thought that if I wanted to publish a book I needed to get my online presence going now. Although I know that statement to be true, it has taken away from my stories that need me to actually write them.

I will be back to the online world and to goodreads again someday. Thank you all for joining this group. I do still dream of creating a website where the people pick the next great fantasy series not the large publishing companies.

Grace if you want to continue with this group let me know and I will leave it up for you to moderate.

Thank you again,

Brianne
