June 16th! Branches are now open for no-contact check-out! Look at mysapl.org to find out details of how to pick up your holds, and even order new books if the quarantine has left you thirsty for more to read!

But what are you reading this June? Got a book you love? Something you've been chewing on and want to yell about? What's your June reads?

Me, I'm reading a bunch of RPG books. 5th edition Dungeons and Dragons, old Shadowrun, Savage Worlds, lots of old Dark Sun Stuff... planning lots of fun projects for myself (and kinda wishing I could get folks together to play).

Rowan (rowan_alchemist) Hey me too! I'm focusing more on games in the Powered by the Apocalypse system, but also a ton of the easy one page RPGs and dungeons. The fun part is that this is for work! So far Monster of the Week and Magical Fury are some of my favorites, though I'm really looking forward to running Faceted soon.

Mari | 4 comments I reread the Twilight Series by Stephenie Meyer. I read it once in middle school. I struggled to get through them. I just really didn't like the relationship between the main characters. I get that it's not meant to be taken that seriously, but I find so many aspects of their relationship to be toxic. At times, I enjoyed the books. There is a sense of escaping into a melodramatic, teenage fantasy that is fun. I just would've liked if the power dynamic between the main characters was more even, and if Bella was more respected by her friends and family.

I am currently reading Motherhood by Sheila Heti and will be starting Mansfield Park by Jane Austen after that.

I'd love to read more books by BPOC and LGBTQ+ authors this month.

Part of my problem with PBtA is that the person who introduced me to it is my brother-in-law, and he does not know the system very well.

Cindy (cmoreno) I just finished Grace Talusan's The Body Papers and started on The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo. I'm really loving The Poet X because I love poetry and I love that Xiomara, the main character, uses her poetry to rage/rebel against her parents, the church, and all that frustrates her. After The Poet X I'll need to start on my book club book, Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens.

Beverly (bjbixlerhotmailcom) | 67 comments I am currently listening to Malice by Keigo Higashino, a fascinating mystery set in Japan, where NONE of the characters have gone to a Ramen shop to eat Ramen; instead, they eat hamburgers!

Margaret Briones | 1 comments Do graphic novels count towards your book count for the reading program? just wondering.

Most definitely!

Last night, I grabbed Terry Pratchett's "Small Gods". I tried to read Lackey and Dixon's "Black Gryphon", but just couldn't drag myself into it. I'll try later.

That is unfortunate. I highly recommend checking out Monster of the Week if you like TV shows in the vein of Supernatural, Buffy or the X-Files, or Blades in the Dark if you like dark fantasy and playing rogues.

I'm more of a heroic fantasy playing Bards, myself. ;-)

Ah! Then no BitD for you! Dungeon World is the PbtA D&D equivalent, but it has some issues in formatting. I've heard Fellowship is good, though I haven't read/played it and it's LotR inspired so there's that. In general though heroic fantasy isn't PbtA's strength.

I have picked up Terry Pratchett's "Small Gods" in my quest to read SOMETHING written for adults this summer.
