AND WE'RE OFF! What are your thoughts so far? Do you like Brandon Sanderson's writing style?

Bookworm | 31 comments Although this book was a bit hard for me to get into, I'm really enjoying it so far. I'm so excited to find out what happens next! This might be a dumb question, but has anyone figured out who's perspective the little passages before each chapter are written from?

Daisy (allomanci) you find that out further on

Mandy (mandyf349) | 2 comments I agree with Bookworm. The world was a bit hard for me to get into but now that I'm there, I can't wait to read more!

Bookworm | 31 comments Daisy: ok, thanks :)

Morgan Blanch (hopelessbookaddict) It's got me hooked right from the beginning! I just think the whole concept is so fascinating. And I'm really interested to know who the narrator at the beginning of each of the chapters is. I am so keen for the rest!

Courtney Lunn | 5 comments My current suspicion is that the mysterious narrator is the Lord Ruler, before he came to power 1000 years ago :D

Leah (leahrosereads) Woah, what a start to a novel. I was hooked pretty much by the end of the prologue, and the entire story has unfolded exceptionally well so far.

I can't wait to see Kelsier's plan unfold.

Nathan | 5 comments I have a feeling that the intro passages are the Lord Ruler 1000 years ago as well. I'm also pretty sure that he's the hero who arose to rid the land of the consuming darkness and lost and then was turned into the Lord Ruler by the darkness.

Brooke (brookeluvsbooks) I really like it so far but I'm still a little confused when it comes to the magic system.
But I love Kelsier so much!

chris (f4gtian) | 13 comments I was hard to get into this new world, but the last two chapters were great. I was glad they gave an explanation on how they use the metals and their powers.

I'm enjoying Brandon's writing style.

Libby (arakazi) | 5 comments I loved this right from the get go! I am really enjoying the writing style I found it much easier to get into than some other adult fantasy books I've read. I was hooked from the prologue and hope that the Skaa got to safety! I love the crew, and I really like Vin and Kelsiers relationship. I hope it grows into a sibling or father-daughter style bond. I also think that Dockson and Sazed are fantastic! I am loving the magic system so far and I am looking forward to find out what kind of mysterious power the atium will be.

Petuli The first part was kind of hard but I still enjoyed it. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the book.

I just stated reading this... really liking it so far :)

Liv (oliviareadstoomuch) I finished this first part days ago but forgot to post an update —oops. I like the story so far. I love the main characters so far and I love this magic that is unveiled slowly. I love the idea of burning metals for powers. What I don't like so far is some of the dialogue. I want some action already! But back to reading :)

Amanda Kay (mandypandyjack) I really enjoyed the prologue but the planning scenes are so long that I sometimes have a hard time getting through those even though the information is important. Overall, I'm liking the story but like Olivia said, there's a lot of dialogue and not a lot of action in part 1. I'm hoping that once their plan goes more into effect we'll get to see a little more action.

Also, is it taking anyone else forever to read this book? I feel like I'm reading so slowly even though I read at a pretty decent speed. I don't know if it's the writing style or if I'm just trying to make sure I don't miss anything or just the fact that it's like 600+ pages...I don't know lol

Kaylene (kylnmllr87) It took me awhile to get through Part 1, but I have been enjoying it so far. There's just so much to take in, it's just been a slower read so far. I LOVE the magic system. Its so unique and different from any I've read of before. I also really like Kelsier. He's a fascinating character. I love how he treats Vin, and I'm looking forward to seeing how their relationship continues to develop. I'm also intrigued how he became Mistborn since he wasn't born with magic. It just says he Snapped… I'm curious to find out exactly what that means.

M.J. Mallon (kyrosmagica) | 10 comments To begin with I struggled with the magic system and the volume of characters but just finished Part 1 and I'm really enjoying it now.

Brenda (bookularbrenda) | 4 comments I'm really loving all the thought that Sanderson has put into the allomancy stuff. Love all the little details I wouldn't even think about.

Kaili Stacey (kailistacey) | 2 comments I fell right into this book. The world and the magic system are fascinating and I can't wait to see how the story unfolds

Molly (mcelizabeth97) I agree with some people that it did take me a little while to get into it but now that I'm done with part one I think the rest should go rather quickly for me.

Nancy Murphy I finished part 1 about 2 days ago.

Just as with everyone else I was having trouble getting hooked in. The Allomancy is an interesting take on the powers.

Sadly as much as I know it is part of the story, the second I stopped reading the "journal" entries before each chapter I could flow through it fine.

Marta Karpowicz | 6 comments Just finished part one! Ugh it got me forever to read it, have no idea why - is it the size of book or just my laziness ? I was hooked up right form the beginning! When most of you say that beginning was kinda slow for me it was so fascinating and when I say the beginning I mean starting with the prologue heh. No words can describe my love for Kelsier - definitely my fav character! Like someone said - Sazed! I want more of him! The mystery with journals is on the back of my head all the time! Just let us now Mr Sanderson hehe. The Allomancy Magic is truly interesting but it's hard for me to catch up with it - I tried to read it in my native language at the same time as it's probably my problem but the translation ugh......... Anyway hoping to catch up with the reading!

Maddee | 3 comments Nancy, you can do what you want, but I highly suggest reading the entries. It's not just part of the story. It is a major part of the plot. It is crucial to not only the first book, but all three books. You may not know it yet, and I don't like to say much about in fear of slight spoilers, but EVERYTHING in the book is important. It is what makes the series so incredible. Just a thought.
