Query abandoned by poster > ABANDONED. YA Search & Find book series? with very creepy, detailed illustrations. Girl & boy (dog?) appear in different locations where you look for objects - giant's kitchen, strange restaurant in space, etc.

Kitty | 2 comments I had this book when I was a kid around 2003. It was a super intricate book of search and find but the illustrations were almost for adults. Super weird and stylised to this illustrator. I think I remember there was a girl and a boy and I think a dog but they were all drawn very weirdly and almost in quite a creepy way but the drawings were amazing. I can remember two pages. One was a giants kitchen and there was always loads of stuff around. The other was a strange restaurant in space and again the drawing are super strange and beautiful. They were massive and I think there were quite a few different versions of the books.

Kitty, is this book for kids, teens and/or adults?

Is there a story or plot? (You mentioned a giant's kitchen and a restaurant in space.)

Would you say the creepy illustrations are simple or detailed, painted watercolors or bold graphics, bright or dark colors, black & white? Do they remind you of a similar illustrator or picture book author?

Kitty | 2 comments It’s a book for young adults I would say. The drawings were too complicated for kids. But it was a search and find book. So very little story. Each two pages was a new place but I only remember those two locations. They weren’t creepy in the traditional sense. I think they were just very stylised. They were bold but clearly hand drawn. The only author that comes to mind is Brian Froud and his fairy books. Not really the same style but that kind of vibe and each page is super detailed.

Thanks. I added some plot details to the topic header, so your book might be recognized from the header alone. Feel free to update it by clicking the small "edit" link after the header. This only works on the full Desktop website – not the Mobile website or app.

Author mentioned - Brian Froud

Detailed illustrations like Graeme Base are too realistic?
