The Village Blend, Clare Cosi's popular coffee shop, has been chosen as the venue for a star-studded party during New York's Fashion Week. Lottie Harmon, a one sought-after jeweler, will be debuting her new line of baubles aptly called 'Java Jewelry'. During the soiree a cyanide laced latte is served to a gentleman who promptly drops to the floor, dead on impact. One of Clare's baristas is tagged with the crime as he had recently been in a relationship, now over, with the victim. However, it soon becomes clear to Clare that the latte was intended for Lottie and Clare is determined to find the murderer. Delving into Lottie's past opens another mystery that throws several possible suspects under Clare's investigative eye.
This cozy mystery series is fun stuff, rather light and fluffy. I like Clare's character; ex-husband and Village Blend partner - meh; mother-in-law Madame is a hoot. There was the beginning of a story-line involving Clare's daughter Joy that just seemed to fall by the wayside. Maybe that will be brought to light in the next book or so. Enjoyable.
