Cutter/Carleton was deeply impacted by his sister Caroline’s murder. Do you think he would have forged the same career path if she had lived?

Robin (robinmy) | 2450 comments I think he probably would have ended up in prison right beside Dorian if he had stayed on the path he was on. Caroline's murder gave him a reason to join the army and eventually become a different person.

Anita (anitanodiva) | 2973 comments Although Dorian was caught providing a cover for the murder Cutter committed, it was a roll of the dice each time they went out to steal. Eventual capture was just waiting for each of them. I think it was when Dorian didn't come out of Newgate that made Cutter decide he needed a better life plan.

Laura I agree that prison was the deciding factor for Cutter to make some changes. Scared straight somewhat.

Charlene (charlenethestickler) | 1203 comments Such a sad commentary on the era; it's a wonder these young men ever did anything right.

Caroline’s unavenged murder was what set Cutter on a course to seek justice. His decision to go the traditional route was probably influenced by Dorian’s time in prison but the Shadow of Night was all about his sister. Imagine losing both of the people who were the most important in your life and having no one else.

I totally agree, Robin. Caroline's murder sent him on a completely different path.
