James Flynn | 1 comments I am trying to track down a reference to an incident I read of years ago. During the Civil War a regiment believed they had lost their color only to later find it wrapped around the waist of a dead soldier and hidden under his coat. Any help in tracking the story down appreciated

Michael Brasher | 4 comments I'm not sure this particular story is the one, as there were several episodes on both sides of colors being torn from the staff and hidden under a jacket or wrapped around the body for safekeeping. One particular incident involved the colors of the 1st Texas Infantry at Antietam in the Miller Cornfield. I don't have the particular reference in front of me now, but I believe there were some 16 men who bore those colors, and the colors were found wrapped around the body of the the last (16th) color bearer, but I don't think they were hidden. So odds are this isn't the particular incident you are searching for, but is one of many similar documented incidents. Good luck in your continuing search!

Porter Broyles | 210 comments Two little pieces of trivia:

1) For what single act have the most Medal of Honors been presented?
2) For what single act have the second most Medal of Honors been presented?

1. The capturing of the enemy colors.
2. The carrying of Colors into battle.
