Nominations for February 2015 group read

I don't think it's on the list ....
I've checked and it isn't. I would be glad to set up a buddy read thread if you'd like, Ilya. That's one that I've never read. Am hoping to read some of the Russian authors this year.

Sorry, I can't nominate, when I open the list, it is in Japanese.
The link hasn't worked for a long time. Here's a link to the thread with the original list of 100 books.

Just a little over a day to nominate a book for our February group read. So far we have these books from which to choose:
Emma by Jane Austen
The Return of the King by J.R.R. Tolkien
Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell
Emma by Jane Austen
The Return of the King by J.R.R. Tolkien
Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell
Nominations are now closed and the poll is up. Please vote for the book from the above 3 that you would most want to read next month.

All 3 would be great. I haven't read the 1st 2 in the LOTR series. Hope to remedy that this year. :-)

I have to start with the first one, too, Giovanna. And, yes, we can read both if they remain a tie. We did that last year and I think it worked well. I won't do a reread of Emma if it's one of them, but might read another of hers that I haven't gotten to yet (Mansfield Park, Sense & Sensibility, ??) at the same time. I read Emma fairly recently and really loved it. Much better than any of the movie adaptations that I've seen.
Voting ended at midnight and we did end up with a tie.
We will read Emma first since it was nominated first. It will be close, but I think it can be done in a month.
Gone with the Wind is another story ... at just over or just under 1,000 pages, depending on the version you choose, we will need to allow 2 months for this group read.
So the schedule will be:
Feb 20-March 19 - Emma by Jane Austen
Giovanna, you nominated Emma. Would you want to lead the discussion? It's not required to nominate in this group (I know some other groups do require that), but want you to know that it is your option. Just let me know here or in a private message.
March 20-May 19 - Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell
Elham, are you interested in leading the discussion of GWTW? See note above re discussion leaders.
Now I need to get busy and finish the 2 classics I have going now.
I do hope that we will be reading something from Lord of the Rings this year. :-)
Thanks for all who nominated and voted. I'm happy to see more interest and look forward to our discussions.

Oops! I just realized that GWTW has already been a group read. However, it's been almost 2 years and I did miss this and included it in the poll. Sorry for my error. We'll go ahead with it this time. I'll try to be more alert ... or we could make it a policy that we can reread some if it's been a long time (i.e., 12 months, 18 months). What do you think?

I guess that depends on whether we really want to read ALL the books on the 100 list. It will take much longer to finish the list if we continue to allow re-reads. Of course, I have no problem with the current schedule as you propose. No one else caught that GWTW was a repeat either ....
By the way ... it's long, but it's a very fast read. Maybe since it's a re-read you could still do it in 1 month, rather than two.
True. I personally don't want to do rereads as we've left the threads open. There are several that I've yet to read and can always comment there. So unless there is overwhelming desire to allow rereads, it will stay the way it is. I'll be more alert next time. Well, that's my plan. :-)
Re GWTW ... I doubt I could read it in a month. I won't hold the group up though. If most are almost done, we'll have another group read on schedule.

I haven't read it since high school so am really looking forward to it. I got it a few years ago for my Kindle so I wouldn't have to hold a huge book. :-)
Another thought I had when I was making the discussion threads is that rereads could be done as buddy reads. We've set that up to be for books that are not on our original 100 Books Challenge list, but could include rereads if someone didn't want to read one alone. There are several that I haven't read yet that have already been group reads. Just another thought that flitted through my brain. :-)
