Peg Gjertsen (gjertsen) | 51 comments In chapter 48, the conversation with Villefort went off the rails right away. First the Count tells Villefort he did not need to call on him because the good fortune the Count gained from saving the son for his mother was enough.

Then he says, "you said, I think, that I had nothing else to do. Now, really, let me ask, sir, have you? — do you believe you have anything to do? or to speak in plain terms, do you really think that what you do deserves being called anything?" Wow, it felt to me that he virtually punched Villefort.

However, Villefort seemed to be able to deal with it. I half expected, he would make his excuses and leave.

I do not remember Madame Villefort being in Italy. Do you have a page number to the part where she met the count in Italy?

Binging on Netflix or Prime Video, my wife and I love to "notice" characters from other shows. Last week we were watching an old "Grey's Anatomy", and a 95-year-old guy came into the ER with his wife, who had fallen on a hike.

"That's, uh, Mark Twain, uh, the guy who, Hal, Holbrook. That sounds just like Hal Holbrook." I almost always recognize a voice while my wife sees the characters.

It's been at least 30 years, and probably longer, since I (saw) or heard Holbrook. The human brain is quite an organ.
