Tama (cozybookdays) (cozybookdays) | 4 comments After finishing Tuck Everlasting, I picked up The Extremely Inconvenient Adventures of Bronte Mettlestone by Jaclyn Moriarty. I’m 79% in and OH MY GOSH it’s so GOOD!

A mystery MG that I found delightful was Aggie Morton Mystery Queen: the Body Under the Piano by Marthe Jocelyn. There’s a second book due for release this September and I already have it preordered.

The WinterHouse trilogy by Ben Guterson was quite entertaining. But maybe it’s a series of books best enjoyed in Winter.

My next MG book to read is Stand Up, Yumi Chung! by Jessica Kim.

message 27: by Emma (new)

Emma | 3 comments I just finished re-reading The Frog Princess series (8 books) by E.D. Baker earlier this year. I read the first 3 books as a kid, then followed the series as the rest of the books came out. They hold up. They're really cute, the characters are great and the fantasy world and the magic system are really imaginative. I'll probably re-read these books again next year, too. E.D. Baker

Emma | 3 comments I'm currently reading The Time Quintet by Madeleine L'Engle (A Wrinkle in Time, etc.) I haven't read these books since I was a kid, and I'd forgotten how utterly charming and absurd they are. These books are wonderful. I'm on Book 2, A Wind in the Door, right now and I'm thoroughly enjoying my re-read.A Wrinkle in Time Madeleine L'Engle

message 36: by Ray (new)

Ray Petrolino (raypetrolino) | 3 comments I recently read J.A. White's "Nightbooks". Of course, the book itself was excellent, but it's the short stories within the book that fly under the radar and deserve to be revisited, e.g., "The Top Bunk" and (I think) "The Playground": absolutely chilling and creepy. I'm not gonna lie...I was a little disappointed in the Netflix movie adaptation. But it's tough in any big production to carry over the nuanced mastery of a skillful writer.

I'm currently reading "The Monsters of Rookhaven" by Padraig Kenny. And I'm completely sucked in already.

message 37: by Ray (new)

Ray Petrolino (raypetrolino) | 3 comments Just finished reading The Monsters of Rookhaven by Padraig Kenny:

Stunning visuals, vivid descriptions and scenes, unpredictable, and more disturbing than I expected (which I like; I'd recommend for ages 10 and older).

But also empathetic, thoughtful, and original in using an almost mystical Gothic tale and multiple points of view to understand and come to know beings that are different from ourselves.

I felt the ending might have been rushed just a tad, but honestly, even that barely registers as a complaint. Overall, an absolutely memorable, delightful book.

message 38: by Jackson (new)
