Well it's obvious really. Please don't spoil the book for everyone else! You may have known something for ages, but let Charles Dickens reveal it in his own good time, please!

Everyone here is great at this; it's only courtesy really. And Goodreads gives us spoiler tags, so we can hide things under them. There's just a couple of problems:

1. If you use the "reply" function, please be aware that it will reveal anything under the spoiler tag. Try to avoid using the reply function in these cases, or if you do, please check what has actually appeared, and edit it as necessary.

2. If you regularly read group comments via your emails, occasionally this reveals anything under spoilers too. It does not seem to make any difference which device you are using.

If this has ever happened to you, then the best thing to do may be to always read the comments in the group's threads.

OTHER GENERAL RULES:

If it is a group read, then we will be reading one chapter a day. That day's summary will be posted. Please be aware which chapter we are on, so that you do not talk about anything which is yet to come, even if you are further ahead in your own reading, or can remember it from before.

Side reads: please use spoiler tags at your discretion. Often with factual books, they are not necessary.

Seasonal short story reads: Usually these will be short enough for spoilers not to be an issue, as those joining the discussion will have already read the story! However, it may be more polite to use tags, as they are easy to unclick.

The member leading the discussion will say if they are going to split the read, and if so, then the rules are as they are for the group reads, ie., no spoilers please for what is to come.

For buddy reads, those joining the buddy reads will agree among themselves how to structure the read, and possible spoilers.

THE SIMPLEST WAY:

Sometimes it is easiest to do without a spoiler tag, and yet still refer to something significant, or which will happen in the future, just by how you phrase something.

Thanks everyone!
