As Terry Pratchett drew heavily from fairy and folklore, this might be of interest.

I will note - that the fact that Littlebottom is not a dwarf, and Lady Sybil is younger and skinner than in the books is upsetting for me. I like Lady Sybil because she was older, fat and still got a love story. And kicked ass without axes. Apparently she is the Disc's Batman in the mini-series. Meera Syal or Marianne-Jean Bapiste would have been perfect in the role.

Hmm. I mean, I'm super excited to watch this; The Watch books are my favorites. And Lara Rossi looks like a badass...but she doesn't look like Lady Sybil AT ALL. I like seeing badass women over the age of 40 that look like real people on screen. And how can Littlebottom not be a dwarf!? Sigh.

Exactly. Badass I don't mind. But Sybil is too young and too sexy.

I forgot to note that the actor playing Littlebottom, while not a dwarf, is non-binary.

That's neat. I'm unfamiliar with all the actors except Richard Dormer. I'll probably try to reread the series (might listen to the audiobooks this time) before the show.

Have you seen any of the other Pratchett shows? I enjoyed Going Postal, even though it wasn't as magical as I would've liked.

I enjoyed Postal and Hogfather. The problem with the Rincewind movie is that David Jason who plays Rincewind is just a smidge too old. The cartoons while not the best animation are actually pretty good. The audio books tend to be great.

I haven't seen Hogfather or the cartoons. I didn't much like Rincewind, though it's been a while since I watched it and I can't remember why anymore. Looks like the cartoons are available on YouTube, so I'll give them a watch when I can! I'll save Hogfather for Christmas. :)

Asaria | 814 comments Oh my. What have they done to The Watch? And Sibyl.... Eh, and to think that I was so excited for a new Pratchett's adaptation.

Pratchett's prose doesn't lend well into live-action, I think, but previous movies are enjoyable on their own. I agree Rincewind is too old, though.

By the way, which Pratchett's book or series did you enjoy the most?

I think Nation is his best book, tbh.

Nation is fantastic.

I came to the Tiffany Aching series late, but I love those.

My favorite of the adult Discworld novels are the City Watch series, but I love the Witches series almost as much and I've reread those more.

I haven't read all of Pratchett's books. My uncle gave me one of the Witches books for Christmas as a teen, and I've been reading some every year since. I don't want to reach the last book. Thankfully, he has a lot of books!

I have a soft spot for "Nation" but my absolutely fave was (or still remains?) Small Gods. It would be great to revisit it in English this time.

Margaret > My story is a bit similar to yours.

My brother was a big fan of Pratchett and sci-fi and fantasy in the past. At one point he lent me a book from his collection. That's how he created a monster!

Once during a very boring lecture at University, I began to read The Science of Discworld II: The Globe. That lecture was much more to my taste :) .

I haven't read Small Gods! I'll read it this year. :) Darn it, I just checked and my library doesn't have it on audio. Well, it might have to wait until December then. It can be a Christmas reading treat.
