I've read 23 of these counting the ones omitted.
I am interested in the Townsend Warner books as they are Virago books. I don't own them though but am looking to buy them. I am interested in the two I own as well;
The Feast of the Goat
The Heather Blazing
Summer will Show
After the Death of Don Juan

Books excluded from the randomiser:
22) The Colour
32) Huckleberry Finn
34) Rabbit Run

Gail (gailifer) | 2173 comments Boy, it feels as if we voted for September 2 days ago....
I have read 7 of these but one of them is the Feast of the Goat. However, I could go for either of the Warner.

Diane | 2044 comments There are only a few I haven't read:

Summer Will Show
After the Death of Don Juan
The Master
Fools of Fortune
Castle Richmond
The Lusiads
Z
The War at the End of the World
Ancestral Voices
Rabbit Redux / Rabbit Is Rich

I'd be okay with most of these. I don't think I have access to Fools of Fortune, though.

Pallieter is in English, but it is out of print and difficult to find. I used to own a copy in English. I don't believe it is available digitally in English.

Including those over 600 pages, I have read 23 in that section of the List. Not sure how much crossover I will be able to get with other people's TBR, but here are mine:

- Walden (Thoreau)
- The Hobbit (Tolkien; unbelievably...)
- City Sister Silver (Topol)
- The Heather Blazing (Toibin)
- Pepita Jimenez (Valera)
- The House by the Medlar Tree aka The Malavoglia (Verga)

My research tells me that this has effectively been translated into English by Charlotte Bodde and published in Sydney, Australia in... 1937! The National Library of Australia in Canberra apparently has two copies, but only available for the main reading room (no borrowing). You can request scans of the book, but it must not come cheap.

I think I will skip voting for October. My new job has sucked all my brain power. I am going to have to skip my TBR book this month, sigh but I am enjoying The Godfather. Happy voting everyone.

Amanda Dawn | 1679 comments I was backwoods camping this week, so it was nice to return to the bOTM options. Also good chance for me this time, there's 23 options here I haven't read. Out of those, I'd be interested in that have already been mentioned are:

- Summer will show (uni library)
-The Heather Bazing (uni library)
-House by the Medlar Tree (scribd ebook)
-Feast of the Goat (scribd ebook)
-Castle Richmond (librivox)
-War at the end of the world (scribd ebook)
-Rabbit Redux (libby audio)
-Rabbit is rich (libby audio)
-Pepita Jimenez (scribd ebook)

Since 3 people have alreay mentioned either Summer will Show/voting for Warner I'll likely go for that one.

Summer Will Show would be awesome. It would also fill my self-requirement for montly NYRB reads.

Oh, and so envious of camping up in beautiful Canada!! Camping kinda loses its appeal in 95+ degree heat. My son was just talking today about going camping next month. I reminded him that the September temperatures here are about the same as they are now.

Sweet...that's what I'll do then :)

Won't lie, it was beautiful and full of peak experiences (there had been a meteor shower earlier in the week, so I was able to watch shooting stars and see the milky way while laying on a lake), but Southern Quebec is regularly between 30-40 degrees celsius over the summer, so it wasn't far off from your 95+ degrees anyway lol. (The weather in Montreal is pretty extreme on both ends tbh, the coldest day of the year is always at least -40 and the hottest is always at least +40)

Star Geek Assuming I can find them, of course:

. Killer Inside Me (Jim Thompson)
- Walden (Henry David Thoreau)

- Lord of the Rings (J.R.R. Tolkien)

NYRB Classics are books published by New York Review Books. It's just one of the many book lists I am chipping away at. There are a few 1001 books on the list.

Here is a link to the NYRB Classics: https://www.nyrb.com/collections/clas...

Pip | 1822 comments There are 41 of these I haven't read, but I don't have easy access to them, so I am just going to go with what others vote for.

message 16: by George P. (new)

George P. | 725 comments I have read 14 of these, or about 30%. There are only about five others that I am very keen on at this time, including the War at the end of the World, which Diane mentioned, but I might read whatever the group picks.

Any interest in the Kreutzer Sonata?

message 17: by George P. (new)

George P. | 725 comments Coincidentally, I am about to start book one of the Kristen Lavransdatter series, The Wreath.

message 18: by George P. (new)

George P. | 725 comments Under the Yoke is only one dollar for Kindle. Rather long, but I would read it.

Voting was light. The winner for October Summer Will Show by Sylvia Townsend Warner and the randomizer chose The Master by Colm Tóibín. The TBR will be announced tomorrow.
