I was wondering if we could do a LARA version of a play - we haven't tried that yet. In principle it should be possible to get together a bunch of people to record the audio, with the different parts being read by different people.

Is anyone interested in exploring this idea?

So here's my initial idea of how to do it:

1. Use Anouilh's Antigone as the text. It's short, it's out of copyright, people like it, pdfs are readily available, the language is not difficult.

2. I get the LARA version ready. This should be reasonably quick - I find translating from French to English a whole lot easier than the reverse direction.

3. We post an anonymous recording task and a review on Goodreads where we invite people to audition for a part. They do this by logging into the recording task and recording a few segments for the role(s) they're interested in.

4. If we get enough takers, we tell the successful applicants to go ahead. Everyone records when they want. When they've finished, we put it all together and possibly ask for retakes.

I have no idea if this would work - but it's not hard to set up, and if it did work it would be very cool!

I started putting together a LARA Antigone - still very rough, but it's progressing quickly. The current version is posted here.

It's possible to do the recording and translations in parallel, so I think we could get started on recording quite soon.

Me too! I'm just sorry that my French accent isn't good enough to be able to do recording myself.

There are eleven roles, but several of them could be doubled. "Le Chœur" and "Le Prologue" could be played by the same actor, who could also be one of the guards. Hemon could also double with a guard. I've arranged the table of contents so that you can immediately see who's in each scene.

I've done another cleaning-up pass over the text, and I think we're now at the point where we can start looking for people to record the different parts. The current version is posted in the same place, i.e. here.

The English version of Antigone is complete, it came out very well! Details are posted here.

The French version is coming along more slowly, but is making steady progress. The text and translations are finished, and the audio is about 40% recorded. If you speak French well and are interested in recording a part, please let us know! More details here.
