Wild, weird and wacky reads are always a bit of fun! Often takes you by surprise and often digs a hook into you so you wind up reading an entire new series. For me, this happened with Terry Pratchett’s “Wee Free Men” a story of Discworld. Someone recommended it, and being an eclectic reader, I immediately dove into a new fantasy world. The series was refreshing, funny and engrossing! What other treasures are out there? Share your favorites so we can explore!

Rowan (rowan_alchemist) I don't know if this quite qualifies, but Gideon the Ninth has been my new obsession, partially because it's so hard to pin down! It's got necromancy, intergalactic war, an undead god king, duels, mystery...The story goes in such surprising directions too, and I can't wait to read the sequel because I was on the edge of my seat the whole time with the first one.

Wee Free Men is so good! Pratchett is basically the definition of weird and wacky, that's for sure.

Terry Verner | 36 comments I love Fantasy and Science Fiction! The fact that they blend into each other makes it difficult at times to classify but boy are they fun! I also love the new author C.L Polk. Witchmark (Kingston Cycle series) kicks off the series and the second book, Stormsong, is equally good. Can't wait for the third book! Also a great LGBTQ series!

Christopher Moore's "Lamb: The Gospel according to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal" is hilarious.

Rowan (rowan_alchemist) In general, Christopher Moore falls into the wacky and weird! And it occurs to me that Jasper Fforde falls into this category too, really.

Since Morgan opened this with Pratchett, I will also note "Going Postal" by Pratchett. Moist Von Lipwig is a con artist, about to be executed for massive fraud... when the Lord Patrician of the city offers him a chance to survive, by reviving the post office. I think it's a bit more enjoyable if you're more grounded in Ankh-Morpork and Discworld (compared to, say, Monstrous Regiment, which is a bit more self-contained, but still comedic), but it is still great fun to watch him just come up with inventive solutions to problems and make them work through sheer audacity.
