Erica It's almost the end of January but what has everyone been reading this month?

I've settled into the year with some good reads from the library:
A Short History of Tractors in Ukrainian
The Leaving of Liverpool and
The Misunderstanding by Irène Némirovsky

Not sure what I'm going to read next! But I think I better start tackling some of the books from my ever-growing bookshelf.

Read some of the stories in The Short Stories of Dostoevsky
Reread Great Expectations prompted by watching Mr Pip
I Kill the Mockingbird to see if my students at school might like it, and
Tomorrow There Will be Apricots which I quite enjoyed.

I'm considering reading Austerlitz next, but not sure... Still making my way slowly through The Annotated Waste Land with Eliot's Contemporary Prose.

Found a lovely book of short stories in Millwood Gallery, on Tinakori Road That Glimpse of Truth which I will also gradually make my way through.

Sue Dale | 45 comments I loved "A short history of tractors in Ukrainian " too Erica. -also " To kill a mockingbird' , although I read that many years ago, Goodness what a prolific reader you are! Lucky students!
I have been reading the biography ' My life in houses' by Margaret Forster, which I very much enjoyed, and have just finished "Us' by David Nicholls , which I read in almost one gulp and absolutely loved. Warmly recommended.

Erica Haha I'm no student, I just spend a lot of spare time reading and don't watch much tv.

I've recently finished reading Crazy Rich Asians which was a fun read. Girl meets boy, girl goes on holiday with boy, boy's family is outrageously rich, money creates problems.

Stephanie Ackerman I have just finished The Girl on the Train and it was So. Good. A thriller / whodunnit type of book and a compulsive read! I read it in just a few sittings. It was pegged as "the next Gone Girl" but I actually think it stands perfectly on its own. A very engrossing read! I now have the awkward task of working out what to read next - always tricky finding something to follow a book that you've pretty much devoured.

I got two books out of the library the other day that have been on my tbr list for a while, they are:

The Sense of an Ending and The Poisoner's Handbook: Murder and the Birth of Forensic Medicine in Jazz Age New York. I've started the first one and am really enjoying it.
