Avni Arora (avni_arora) | 17 comments I'm okay with everything but I think 1 Agatha book and 1 classic would be nice. Can we do something Christmas themed in Dec, maybe?
How about "And then there were none"? I've been meaning to read this one since long. (unless you guys have all read it)

I love the idea of choosing Sherlock Holmes or even discovering other mysteries. And, totally agree, books are more fun when discussed. I'm totally loving the buddy reads here! :)

message 3: by Gia (new)

Gia Yes, I would also love to read And Then There Were None! That book was recommended to me by a good friend and I'm glad I haven't read it yet--so I can read it here with you all! :) Great idea to alternate each month. I'm happy to read some Sherlock Holmes, too! I have no new ideas to share; it will be interesting to see what you all come up with!

message 4: by Janice (new)

Janice | 193 comments Again this is so wonderful!!! I love the idea of reading an Agatha Christie book and then a classic book with seasonal books for breaks. :) I agree about reading And Then There Were None. I have never read it, but have watched the black and white movie. I haven't read many Agatha Christie books (only 3) as I only discovered recently that I liked cozy mysteries. One book I read that I really enjoyed was Five Little Pigs a Poirot mystery, but maybe this group has already read it.

message 5: by Georgie’s (new)

Georgie’s Book Nook (georgiemb) | 19 comments Definitely up for some Sherlock Holmes to mix it up a bit!

message 6: by Erika (new)

Erika | 79 comments Alternating between Christie and other classics sounds like a lot of fun. And it will help me fit in more classics (which I've neglected doing this year, even though it was a goal of mine eeeek!). Love, love, love the idea of reading And Then There Were None! Love that book. Also, if we were to implement a few Sherlock Holmes books into the mix, I think we should try to include The Hound of the Baskervilles (unless no one likes the idea)? It's my favorite one, and I'm always up for a reread.

message 7: by Gia (new)

Gia @Erika Oh, good idea!! I have The Hound of the Baskervilles sitting on my shelf where it's been sitting the last year or so, haha! I snatched it up at a thrift store for a buck somewhere along the way. I'd like to read it even though it will probably scare my socks off (I'm easily scared, lol!) Good to know it's your favorite one!

message 8: by Gia (new)

Gia I'm going to take a leap of courage into the scary unknown (!) and vote for:

A: The Hound of the Baskervilles

message 9: by Gia (new)

Gia @Shannon Yes, it looks like it!

message 10: by Janice (new)

Janice | 193 comments I think The Sign of Four also looks like a good read. :)

message 11: by Erika (new)

Erika | 79 comments I'm voting A (obviously), but I'll enjoy whichever one wins ☺️. @Gia it really is an awesome Sherlock mystery, I'm sure you'll enjoy it! Even if it is a bit spooky!

message 12: by Gia (new)

Gia @Shannon That sounds great that we'll be reading all 3... I've never read any Sherlock Holmes and I need to!

@Erika Cool! I'm looking forward to reading it whenever it works out!

A. Hounds of Baskervilles. I was meaning to read it for such a long time. I have already read 3 chapters, it was beyond interesting.

We'll soon see, lol!

message 16: by Janice (new)

Janice | 193 comments My kids have all read The Hound of the Baskervilles. I haven't because I don't like really scary books, but my oldest said it's a really great book and not too scary for me. So it sounds great. :)

So we are reading Sleeping Murder in September and The Hounds in October? :)

THE HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES

message 18: by Nada (new)

Nada (nadaoq) | 112 comments The Hound of the Baskervilles for October because it fits in perfectly with Victober and Katie's challenge!
As to alternating between Agatha Christie and other classics, how about exploring other golden age mystery writers? Lil's Vintage World, who's a massive Christie fan, often talks about Patricia Wentworth's Miss Silver books on her channel so those have been on my radar for a while. What do you think?

message 19: by Nada (new)

Nada (nadaoq) | 112 comments I'm all in for a Wilkie Collins! He's been on my TBR for soooo long and each Victober I end up not picking any of his books because they're quite long, so this will be the perfect excuse for me to finally read something by him :D
Also on board with Daphne Du Maurier, I'd like to read more by her and Rebecca is definitely overdue a reread for me.
Will have to check out the other authors on the list but thank you so much Shannon for taking the time to put this list together!

message 20: by Erika (new)

Erika | 79 comments The Moonstone was a great read, so I wouldn't mind exploring more Wilke Collins' works! And I'm really intrigued by Anna Katherine Green,. A.A Milne, and Louisa May Alcott's works. This is such a great list @Shannon (I want to read almost everything hahaha)!!! Thank you for compiling it. And I agree Rebecca seems like a good choice!

Sherlock Holmes would fit perfectly with Katie's Challenge : Read a Victorian book that equates to your favourite modern genre

Glad to hear you liked The Moonstone! Now I can go into assured of a good reading experience! Which of his books should we choose as our first pick?

message 23: by Janice (new)

Janice | 193 comments I have read none of these books!!! Looking forward to some great reading months :)
And I'm also doing the Victober challenge so I choose The Hound of the Baskervilles for October :)

message 24: by Janice (new)

Janice | 193 comments I wouldn't mind 1 book/month for November and December :) I am getting so much more enjoyment reading books since I joined this group and other classic groups on Goodreads :)

Nov and Dec are definitely busy...but still we can afford reading one book each month. We can read something Christmassy...🎅🎄❄

Yaa...I'm adding Hound of Baskervilles on my October TBR..(victober too)

message 27: by Gia (last edited Sep 09, 2020 06:23AM) (new)

Gia I would be able to read one book each in Nov and Dec:)

I vote for a Christmas read in December:)

But I'll be happy with whatever is decided:)

Yes, I'm also intrigued with the Victober challenge. Going to have to go check it out, too!

message 28: by Janice (new)

Janice | 193 comments I agree with Gia :)

message 29: by Avni (new)

Avni Arora (avni_arora) | 17 comments I also love the idea for Christmas read in December. Although, everything works for me!

message 30: by Gia (last edited Sep 11, 2020 04:17PM) (new)

Gia Are we voting on these? If so, I'd go with And Then There Were None for November because my good friend recommended it to me not too long ago. (But sometime this winter I think I do want to read Rebecca with a buddy read even though it seems like a really intense story). And for December I'd go with A Christmas Carol because I've wanted to read this book for a long time now (but all of those Christmas picks look really good!) The Agatha Mystery looks good too!

message 31: by Janice (new)

Janice | 193 comments I agree with Gia and would like to read And Then There Were None for November and maybe the Louisa May Alcott Christmas book? But, I'm good with what the majority vote is. I also would like to read Rebecca sometime this winter as a buddy read. :) I may also read An English Murder, it looks good. :)

I agree on reading Louisa May Alcott Christmas book as I'm recently reading a lot of her short fictions. They are truly a delight. I have already read And Then There Were None and I also don't own the book as my uncle borrowed it from me. However, if everyone agrees then I'll read it too.

These are great picks Shannon! I recently watch the movie of Nutcracker, so definitely would enjoy reading the book.
I am also fond of reading Rebecca or They have always lived in castle...I've heard that both are great stories...

For November I'd love if we pick Rebecca or We Have Always Lived in the Castle. I've been meaning to read the latter for ages and the former is definitely due a reread for me but I feel I need the extra push provided by a book club for those whereas And Then There Were None is one of my favourite books of all time and so easy to read and reread a million times over 😂
For December I'm voting for An English Murder. I'd totally join in for a Louisa May Alcott if you end up picking that one though

message 35: by Monica (new)

Monica Gonzalez | 15 comments I would like to join this one as well! I’m up for it!

Gia Yes, reading Rebecca in January sounds great! I think Winter is the perfect time to read this book. (At least I've heard that fall, rainy, cool days or winter days is a good time to read this book, with a cup of hot tea to go with it and a nice warm blanket to snuggle up in, too).

I'll read all three of those little books in December with you, Shannon!

message 38: by Janice (new)

Janice | 193 comments I agree with Gia :) Reading Rebecca in January sounds wonderful :) and I'd also read all three of the little books in December. :)

What are we reading for December, then?
