The start of a rather long series stars Jill, a PI in England, trained by her adoptive father. Her practice has a fun and cantankerous one eyed cat named Winky who is sworn enemy to her receptionist Ms V, who when let go, just decided to bring her knitting to the office and outfit everyone with a scarf. Jill takes a case investigating a possible serial killer and learns that she is a witch by birth with magical powers. I enjoyed learning with Jill about her magic, birth family and home and the quirky characters. The mystery/ serial killer case was somewhat predictable but still added nicely to the story.
Some of the side like Winky and Mrs V are better than others, the twins, but the book and series has promise as a fun, fluff read. I assume that the characters will be refined and I look forward to understanding the need to hide Jill in a non-magical family.
