The end of September marks "Banned Books Week" (September 27 - October 3, 2020), so this month we'll be taking on an award-winning banned book: "Snow Falling on Cedars" by David Guterson. This 1994 novel was an immediate best seller and was awarded the prestigious PEN/Faulkner Award in 1995. It has been challenged multiple times by schools systems that have banned it or restricted it from their shelves for its content. We'll dive into the book and watch the 1999 film adaptation, and toward the end of the month, we'll talk more about banned books and how/why to read challenged books and literature.
