I think I would have liked this one better if it would have been published before EoS, cause that cliffhanger was just brutal like how do you expect me to care about Chaol when Aelin is (view spoiler) I love Chaol don't get me wrong but like.... why must you do this to me?!

Sofia (sofloaf) This would have been better as a novella. It was dragged out too much as a full novel. I thought it was really boring.

I really liked it! I adored Yrene and she was my favourite for sure. I was annoyed by Nesryn but the information in this book made my jaw drip

Yeah like who would have thought (view spoiler)

Yes!! I liked Tower of Dawn too! Most say it's boring but I find it quite nice and intriguing!

Ilona (colorfuldreamer) | 4 comments I just finished Tower of Dawn and I have to say I really enjoyed it! At first I had a hard time with it, because like Aelin has just been kidnapped?! But after a while I really enjoyed the story and the new characters. Plus the information the book provides is so important!

Ward (wardzr) | 31 comments It was good but Aelin was captured and didn't play a big part in the book

Kyelee | 1 comments This was torture for me I don’t like Chaol at all and a 700 pages book about him? The only thing that made me get through it was that Yrene is awesome 👏

Ava | 15 comments I honestly feel bad for chaol, I don’t like how he reacted to ailen telling him that she was fae, but I can understand where he’s coming from. Personally this was one of my favorite books of ToG just because chaol finally got his happy ending, because when he said I love you to ailen, she said, “I’m sorry” when he said it to dorrian, he just nodded, for the first time in the series, someone finally said I love you back, (yrene) and I’m my opinion he shows the most realistic reactions to things that happen in the ToG series, and he brings up valid points. I think dorrian handled things way better but that’s just because he’s dorrian and can do no wrong 😂 and I loved the sass that Hasar brought into the picture

I’m sure you can power through!! And kingdom of ash is such a wonderful finale, it is worth it to read :)

Bridgett Miller | 2 comments I am struggling through Tower of Daw !!! I read all the others so fast , ACOTAR series as well but this one has already taken me a week and only 70 percent of the way through. I feel like it could have been a novella amd put in Assassins blade.

Jasmine Le | 9 comments Do you guys recommend tandem reading this and EoS like I see all over tik tok? If not, then what order would you rec?

Not sure if I recommend it, but I did do the tandem read and really enjoyed that. It feels like you're reading one big book filled with different pov's.
If you don't want to tandem read I suggest reading EOS first, and TOD after, as is the publication order. The reason people don't suggest this because a lot of people, after EOS will wanna jump straight into KOA. Personally, even when there is a cliffhanger, I'm okay with reading something else first. You can read TOD first too, you'll get a minor EOS spoiler but if you wanted to you could switch them.
What you do depends on whether you like the idea of a tandem read, because there is no right or wrong way to read it. If you do like the idea, go ahead. If you don't, then read either of the books first (EOS first for publication order, but cliffhanger; TOD first if you wanna go straight to KOA, but spoiler)

Jasmine Le | 9 comments I finished EoS and WOW. I wanted to read them separately bc I am aware that the pacings of each differ quite a lot. Except that cliffhanger is hard for me to progress through ToD. Can someone please give me some reassurance that it is worth the read and to not skip it?! My best friend skipped it, but I trust in SJM and don't want to, but jeeeeeez Chaol is already not a favorite character of mine and it feels like Filler story :(

Thara | 12 comments Don't skip it!!! I didn't like Chaol THAT much but still loved this book! There are certain new characters who make it so cool! Editionally, there's quiet a lot of information that also affects Aelin and Co. Give it a try, the character development is sooo cool!

Shaelie | 1 comments i really enjoyed ToD and it has a lot of important information in it, not a skipable! i would definitely recommend doing the tandem read with EoS though because that way the story moves together and you come to the cliff hanger ending of EoS and then don’t have to wait an entire 700 pages to continue from that storyline. i really enjoyed the tandem read!

Jasmine Le | 9 comments Okay I will read it and let you know what I think!! Can't wait to get through it though, not gonna lie

Jasmine Le | 9 comments Okay I’m about halfway through chapter 25 and here are my thoughts so far (spoilers ahead if you haven’t read this far!):

1. I was NOOOOOT expecting the twist in love interests! I cannot tell if it’s going to progress farther than just an infatuation, but it does logically seem sustainable. At least on Nesryn’s part with the prince because she is inevitably going to leave. Which makes me wonder if Yrene and Chaol will take things further hurting Nesryn in the end. I don’t want to see that happen, but damn it would be interesting - and messy in the midst of war.

2. I can’t believe Chaol thought he knew Aelin well enough to assume that she would never go to Skull’s Bay and was so utterly wrong bc that is exactly where she went. It doesn’t surprise me, but I don’t recall how this piece of information added to the disaster that was Skull’s Bay. I will say, it’s not Chaol’s fault though as even Aelin’s closest companions could never guess her plans (recalling all the times Aedion and Rowan claim that Aelin made their hearts stop dead in their chests) 🥹

Also, I’m guessing that this is how they eventually find out about the events that took place at the end of EoS since he played a part in orchestrating Hasar’s spies to Skull’s Bay, nonetheless. (Don’t tell me if I’m right tho 🤭)

3. It is KILLLLING ME that Yrene hasn’t shared her story with Aelin to Chaol yet!!!! I so desperately want them to connect the dots so bad and Yrene to realize her part in this war!!! I HOPE it comes out in a way that is worth the anticipation!!

That’s all for now, I’ll keep up w updates if you guys care to discuss with me!! 🥰

Jasmine Le | 9 comments Oh! Also I forgot to add my opinion on Chaol thus far:

I’m all for a character development story, but after the way Chaol perceived Aelin after she came back from Wendlyn, the way he now feels about Nesryn, it just feels like his connections with others (besides Dorian) only serve a purpose of restoring something within himself. I know I shouldn’t compare to Aelin, but she loves her companions so fiercely, romantically or platonically. It feels like Chaol moves on and gets enamored with any woman that aids him in fixing a part of himself he hates without looking further within himself to do the work. I hope my interpretation changes as the story progresses, but he feels like a cliche of men that fawns over a woman who can pump up his ego.

The women deserve better!!!! I’m trying to not continue with such high expectations though.

Thara | 12 comments That's kind of how I felt when I read ToD but I think Maas knows how to create certain feelings about characters like Chaol and I loved how she actively changed the way I thought about him because she just KNEW what you'll think. Sounds messy ik but I did enjoy it!
