This is a dark book. But it has Mace Windu and (view spoiler) It is dark and sad. Don't read as a kid. Wait till 12-13.What did you think?

I thought it was very dark. But what happens to Depa after the end of the book?

Depa becomes (view spoiler) master. It's shown in the Clone Wars series. It's canon (and doesn't contradict anything in EU, does it?)

I think CW series is canon and Shatterpoint is EU.

What is SP?

Edit: Shatterpoint.

Yes, it is. But the Clone Wars season 1 to 6 were around when there was only EU. So do we treat season 7 as exclusively New Canon?
It's a bit confusing.

As there is nothing in EU to contradict Depa in the Clone Wars season 7 - in my head canon it's what happened in both universes. But I get it that some people don't mix their canons. It's just a personal preference.

So could Depa have come back from the dark side?

Apparently. How it was done is a mystery though.

She's shown in Star Wars: Kanan, Vol. 2: First Blood (new canon) as recovering from a serious injury and being referred to as "damaged goods".

I wish Depa came back from the dark side and trained Kanan. Why is there no book telling that story?

Still might happen in the future.

Shatterpoint is grim, gritty and full of tough moral circumstances relative to Jedi and their beliefs. It is the Star Wars version of Heart of Darkness and Apocalypse Now. Stover said in a May 2003 interview, "How about if I did Apocalypse Now with Jedi?" Del Rey agreed and we got Shatterpoint.

I thought it was okay. I don't care for Heart of Darkness or Apocalypse Now (I hate that movie), so Shatterpoint did not do much for me. I did, however, think it was fascinating to learn about Mace's ability to see 'shatterpoints' in the Force and use them. It is a unique ability and Stover presents it well. I was hoping to see more of Depa Billaba. I was a bit disappointed that her ailment isn't described more, it seemed too deux ex machina to me. Shatterpoint is an interesting read and I recommend it. It is the first book in the seven part Clone Wars novels and a good start to the series.

Zuzana is right - Depa's fate can be confusing considering she exists in two continuities; Legends and canon. Like Zuzana mentions you can blend the continuities and come up with a good alternate story. Here are the two narratives of Depa as far as Shatterpoint's conclusion and the end of her life in canon are concerned:

In Legends/EU and relative to Shatterpoint Depa is defeated by Mace as the book ends, as is Kar Vastor (who lured Depa to the dark side of the Force). Depa and Kar are taken to Coruscant were Depa never recovers from her coma. Kar is imprisoned.

In canon Depa is badly hurt by Grievous at Haruun Kal early in the Clone Wars (about 21 BBY). While healing in the Jedi Temple in a bacta tank she meets Caleb Dume and retains him as a padawan. Depa is killed two years later on Kaller by her clone troopers during Order 66 (19 BBY). Of course, Dume escapes and becomes Kanan Jarrus of Star Wars Rebels fame.

The closest things we have to address that is the 12 issue series of Kanan comics from Marvel and flashbacks in Star Wars Rebels. In canon Depa never succumbs to the dark side of the Force. She begins to train Kanan in the comic book series. Sadly, she is killed during Order 66 as noted above.

Does any of this help? Let me know if you have more questions or if I missed something or messed up my understanding of this.

May the Force be with you.

Or a great AU could have her recover from coma + dark side, and be forced to take a Padawan and go be a General because they are low on Jedi.

I don't like OP characters. They're boring. (E.g. C'Baoth in the Thrawn Trilogy. I rolled my eyes every time he manifested new Force powers.) Unfortunately that's the way the sequel trilogy went, too, so we'll probably see much more of those.

I don't mind showing that Mace dipped into the Dark side to boost his powers. The lightsaber form Vapaad he invented was very agressive and it took its users dangerously close to the brink. I know about 3 other Jedi who practiced Vapaad and all of them fell to the Dark side. I personally think that to invent a combat form (and teach it to others) that is so dangerous that everybody who touches it is doomed is stupid. But then again I'm not a huge Mace Windu fan.

BTW I'm sorry to hear you didn't like the book that much. I really enjoyed Stover's Revenge of the Sith.
