Pick-a-Shelf discussion

Anybody up for a session of POTS? We are starting clean in 2015, so there is no theme for this session. Please sign up below if you want to participate, and indicate the number of books that you want to read and the shelf that you want the others to choose for you from.

Since I am getting a late start - Session 1 timing will be as follows.

Sign ups - January 16 - 23
Book choosing - January 24 - 30
Reading February 1 - March 31st

PS since I am on the West Coast of the US, all dates are US dates, which are usually later than Australian dates.

sure i'm in - my shelf will be MNG Picked Books - but there won't be anything on it for a few more days until I start getting challenge picks

I am in for this session, too. My shelf is To Read Mine and I will read one book

am i that predictable? any minimum number of books (typically this challenges gets me 20-30 picks)

Not predictable, really....I just know that I can count on you to be there. :) As for minimum, in what way?

Ahh, well, the rule is the number you want to read plus one from each person, so you would want to have at least that many books on your list.

So for you - It would be three books from each picker, and probably 5 or so pickers. That would be 15 books minimum.

My aim this year is to continue (and hopefully finish) some of the series I have started so
2 books from to be continued.

Sounds like a good challenge :) Do we have to have a specific shelf or can I just nominate my to-read shelf where all my new books get added? And can we add more books to the shelf during the year?

I will have to check back on how to play, and sort out my shelf. I really should have more shelves.

Count me in, and I will get a shelf together. Things fell apart last time because a) work got busy and b) I was waiting for library books to turn up, so I will create a shelf of my own books that I want to make some headway with .

Please refresh my jigsaw-addled brain ( got the outside done, now to get the first layer complete ! It's 4D and fabulous! ), if I nominate 1 book, do I only read 1 book, or one book per team member ?

Niamh - You can use any of your shelves you want, so your To Read shelf is fine. Secondly - yes more books can be added throughout the time to the shelf.

Amanda - If you say you want to read 1 book, then you will get about 10 choices, but you only read one book total, NOT one per team member.

I'm in. I will read 2 books. Please use my LOST shelf. This will help me to finish off more of that challenge.

I'm going to go with 2 books as well. I was going to try for 3 but have a new arrival coming in just over a week (if not earlier!) so I'm going to have my hands full.
Shelf to be nominated tomorrow once I read through my to-read shelf and see what is actually there :)

@Alex: you will need to either create a shelf (book list) for this game on GR or the participants in your group could pull their book suggestions from your GR TBR shelf. You will need about 20 books on the shelf for the selections to be made from.

If you have a stack of books at home, just create a shelf and add them to your GR profile.

I'm in for 3 books. I think I deleted my old POTS shelf, so will create a new one with my Moving Mountains and Lost books on it. I'll post a link here by Jan 23.

I'm in! I will use my list pots-2015 (of course it has all my books from this year's challenges on it :-) ) and I will do 1 book for this cycle. Did I mention I love this group!

I am glad to see so many people participating. This will be fun.

Yes, you can change the number of books at the beginning of each cycle.

I'd like people to choose for me from my POTS-2015 shelf.

Do you know how to link website/url using the html on GR, Kaitlin? It's the same thing. The hints are located on the top right hand corner of the comment box --> (some html is ok)

Just a clarification - You MUST list the Goodreads shelf that you want the members on your team to pick from for the session. The preferred method is for you to link it here as that makes it really easy for all of us to find the correct shelf. Any of us can help you or even link it for you if you want. However, a link is not required since we can get to your shelf by using your profile.

I am going to try including the shelf links with the team designations when I make them as I think I can find all of the shelves and link. That way we won't have to filter through posts to find the person's link. We'll see how it goes.........

the only problem might be that i won't be able to get the book? because i live in croatia and we don't really have an enormous range of books in our libraries :(

I used your to read shelf since you did not list a shelf preference. Let me know if would like to use a different shelf.

Sorry for the delay in posting the teams....For some reason I thought today was the 23rd, not the 24th.

The teams are in the first post on this thread. Go ahead and set up a thread for your team and start picking books for each other. :) We will start reading February 1 and read until March 31st.
