Angelique Woods | 3 comments I recently saw Les Miserables on Broadway and thought it was a fantastic, but left with the feeling that there has to be a lot more to the story than what they could convey in a 2 hour show. Since this book is well over 500 pages, I thought this is the best time to give it a read.

Jasmine (pikakejazz) I'm joining the group a little late so I am a little out of order, but I think I am going to try giving this a shot too! Definitely don't think I'm going to finish it in a week though. I started it mid-last year and I am only about 300 pages in! :( Good story, but man, he is longwinded...

Marah (eyreo) I saw and fell in love with Les Mis on Broadway. I'm going to read this book at somepoint during the challenge too. I want to see all the extra stuff I missed in the musical/movie.

Bana AZ (anabana_a) | 414 comments It took me months to read this book, but I guess it depends on the translation. There definitely is more here than what's shown in the musical, so I'd say it's worth the read. Good luck to you all when you do.

Jasmine (pikakejazz) Besides Ana, how's everyone else doing on this one? I am sooo far behind. I think I have made little to no progress since January! How depressing.

Anyways, I've decided to "cheat" and start listening to the audiobook. Hopefully that will push it along a little bit??

Anastasia (anastasiaharris) | 319 comments I am thinking of using this for my unfinished book. I started it a couple of years ago after watching the movie with Hugh Jackman.

A friend said she loved the book as a teen, and highly recommended it.

I have the gutenberg project version on my tablet, and tried to read it as a summer read. I found it a tad slow at first, but very insightful. His understanding of the human psyche is spot on. I am going to see if all of you make it through and take it as encouragement to finish it.

Angelique Woods | 3 comments So, this book completely stalled me at week 1! I'm only 13% of the way through it and find it to alternate between being a chore to read because of over indulgent excessive prose and historical references that I don't understand offset by riveting scenes that delve into the human psyche and the various internal and external factors that can drive human behavior. Nevertheless, my inspiration is renewed to try to finish it before the end of the year. Wish me luck!!!

Maple (maplerie) | 307 comments I really want to read this book, because on some level I feel like I need to, but it seems like a lot of people struggle with this one. I have it on one of my other challengers, but am kind of dreading when it queues up next :/

Jasmine (pikakejazz) I'm finally getting some headway on this one! I definitely recommend the audiobook if you are having a hard time getting started. Helps with learning French pronunciations too...

Anastasia (anastasiaharris) | 319 comments Is anyone else skimming some of the longer prose? I feel guilty for doing it, but still find myself skimming. Some if it is a little mind numbing.

Marta (gezemice) I read this when I was a teenager and at that time there was no too long book for me.... except this one. I recall a long descriptive part that I just flipped through until I found more action. I do this occasionally nowadays, too - reading is supposed to be fun, and many worthwhile classics have not-so-worthwhile parts. No shame in skipping them.

Jasmine (pikakejazz) Yeah, a lot of it seems like just personal political rants that make no sense to read into unless you are a major French history buff or something...

Jasmine (pikakejazz) I FINALLY finished!! So crazy that it took this long. Definitely not going to finish the entire challenge at this point, but I am trying to not have too many "carry-over" books into 2016...

My official review here.

Anastasia (anastasiaharris) | 319 comments Congratulations Jasmine. This book was very difficult to finish. Completing Les Miserables is a challenge in its self.
