Yara I really liked this book. The placement of fantasy elements in an otherwise ordinary world really intrigues me. I'm looking for more books like this for a while now, but the search goes slowly because I'm not sure how to call the specific sub-genre I'm looking for. Magical realism is a part of it, but it doesn't cover everything.
I'm looking for books with:
- magic in the normal world (without magical institutions like in Harry Potter)
- magical events with little to no explanation
- fantasy elements that are part of someone's imagination (or could be)

Examples of books: Bone Gap, Big Fish, Release. Or like We Are the Ants and Slaughterhouse-Five but then with magic instead of aliens.

Try either A Semi Definitive List of Worst Nightmares by Krystal Sutherland or try reading Made You Up by Francesca Zappia. The book A Semi Definitive list has a lot of unexplained almost magical moments that leave you questioning the nature of the world in a way that ends up answered and while Made You Up doesn’t have any direct ties to magic, the way the main characters brain considers the world and with the many different plot points it almost feels as if there is an magic existing if only in her head.
