Rory cuts a fish head off its body harshly. He knows he has a chance at surviving in the arena but doesn’t want to leave everyone behind. And what if he dies? He takes a deep breath and tries to focus on his job.

Lillian sits by the lake, sharpening her sword with a narrow rock.
She does this for several minutes before tossing the rock aside and running her finger over the dangerously sharp edge.
A line of blood appears on her index finger.
She sucks in a breath, then wipes the blood off on her shirt.
"Okay, sharp enough."

Lilly puts her sword back in its sheath.

Lilly spots a boy from the corner of her eye.

Lilly looks up at him and grins a little. "Hey."

She nods, recognizing the boy from the reaping. "Yeah. You're Joel, right?"

Lilly sits back and looks at the water. "You can just call me Lilly. Everyone else does."

Lilly shrugs. "Great. Just sitting here, pondering my impending doom. You?"

Lilly sighs. "This sucks. My family won't be able to function when I die."

Lilly offers a weak smile. "Hey, that's kinda sweet of you. You know having just met me and all."

Lilly's eyes widen. "What makes you think I'll win? Why couldn't it be you?"

Lilly scrunches up her face in confusion.
"Care to elaborate?"

Lilly nods slowly, starting to understand what he means.
"I get it man. I'm loyal to my own detriment. But just cause you and I are teaming up, doesn't mean you shouldn't try. I don't expect you to die for me Joel."

Lilly frowns at him. "I just want you to try and win. Okay?"

Lilly makes a cross over her heart. "Cross my heart and hope to die…Well, not literally."

"So, we made a deal. We'll watch eachothers backs but we'll TRY to win?" Lilly says, raising a skeptical eyebrow at Joel.

Lilly smiles, satisfied with their agreement. "Deal."
