All three are quick reads, and I read each one almost in one sitting. I downloaded the audio of book 2 from the library as soon as I finished the first book. I would probably have done the same for the third if it had not been for the fact that a new translation was coming out first this fall, so I had to wait for it. (They were originally translated to Norwegian in the late 80’s, and then back in 2019 some clever publisher decided it was time to make a new and more modern translation. Lucky for me as I probably wouldn’t have discovered these gems otherwise). I was totally blown away by the first one, it was impossible to put down (something I rather rarely experience). But they are strange, so probably not for everyone.

This is the last book in The Notebook trilogy, the finest trilogy I have read in a long time. As a whole, most definitely a 5 star read. But, the last one wasn’t *as* strong as the first, maybe because I knew the writing style and wasn’t as surprised about the twist and turns as I was in the first book. Most important themes were war and destruction, self-delusion and its effect on one’s mental health, loneliness and love. First and foremost, very unique narrator style, very clever writing indeed!
Highly recommend this whole trilogy.
