annapi | 5502 comments On his 100th birthday, just before his birthday party, Allan Karlsson climbs out of the window of the old folks home and starts walking, wanting to get away from all the fuss. What follows is a rollicking adventure, which is interspersed with Allan's background history, switching back and forth from the two timelines.

Overall I enjoyed this, but when I started this book 4 months ago, after a few chapters in the beginning I started to get irritated with the characters and put it down. I picked it up again two days ago and finally managed to finish it. Allan is an interesting and funny character, but sometimes he can be annoying and a bit of an a**hole. I loved the dry humor, but the absurdity of it got tiresome after awhile and I had to take a break. Getting back to it when I was finally in the mood to deal with it was fairly pleasant and entertaining, but my biggest beef is that this book is just too LONG. My rating for much of the book was 3 stars, but by the end I had raised it to 3.5, and I'm willing to round up.

Karin | 9205 comments I enjoyed this book and l thought the length was just right, but it was a full 4 star read for me :). Yes, he is a bit of an a**hole, but that's part of the humour, and humour being subjective if it doesn't work as well for you, I can understand.
