As the investigation progresses, Kim is reminded of her time in a care facility. In what ways, if any, did her connection help/distract the case?

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) Kim's past gives her so much empathy for the victims so she goes that little bit further to solve the case. There are times in this case where her passion makes her a bit careless and endangers her life, especially towards the end of the story when she is onto the killer/s. When she goes alone back into Crestwood with the killer on the loose, I did think this was a bit TSTL. Tiny little plot flaw there for me. She was lucky she had others there to watch her back.. or she would have been history. Her passion and single mindedness is her strength.. but sometimes can be her weakness as well.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3474 comments Her past allows her to relate to the victims. It also tells the reader a lot about Kim's past and why she is the way she is.

I didn't think it was TSTL because she didn't expect the killer to follow her. Kim was concerned that the dentures weren't found at the burial site. Kim and Stacy hit on the real murderer at the same time but it was too late. I liked that twist in the story.

Kim’s history definitely made her more empathetic to the victims, which probably is what drove her to buck the authorities and proceed with the dig. She knew what they didn’t know and that they were the last chance at justice for those missing girls. I was impressed at how she found the balance to not project her circumstances onto any of the girls. It kept her focused, if not exceptionally driven.

I’ll address the question re her decision to visit Crestwood alone later (there’s actually a separate discussion question for that!).
