It's hard to believe, but it's about time to start looking ahead to the 2021 edition of the TBR climbs. I'm getting my challenges prepared for next year and will be setting up the Mount TBR 2021 site soon. And for those who enjoyed (or would like to try) the climb that involves TBR books that you DON'T own, the VIRTUAL Mount TBR Challenge will be back as well. Once I have the Goodreads Groups set up for both of these, I will post the links on this thread so you can find them.

Sam (aramsamsam) Thanks for doing this again Bev! From your back catalogue of groups I gather this will be the tenth year of Mount TBR? This calls for some kind of celebration :)

message 3: by Nell (new)

Nell Will we have a 3rd quarter check-in?

Pamela | 81 comments Thanks for hosting these TBR climbs again Bev! I really enjoy these challenges. I'll definitely be in for both again.

Nell, I'm sorry, but I'm afraid not. Life has been a bit crazy--I will definitely have the final check-in for the end of the year, though.

You're welcome! I love these challenges and plan to keep doing them as long as I have a huge TBR pile. At the rate I'm going, you all don't need to worry about me cancelling the challenge for a LONNNNGGG time. LOL

Sam, it is the tenth year for both Mount TBR and my Vintage Mystery Challenge (on my blog only--I have trouble keeping up with two venues for the TBRs and didn't want to try it for the Vintage). I hope to be able to do something special at the end of next year's challenge...but I don't know if it will work out.

Life happens. I will look forward to the final check-in.

Rachael (allons-y-bookworm) I haven't decided on my goal yet but I will definitely be climbing again in 2021. There are still too many unread books on my shelves!
Thanks, Bev, for creating these groups :)

message 12: by Elyse (new)

Elyse (winesaboutbooks) Thanks Bev!

Bethany Mead (keys_on_fire) | 13 comments Thanks for all of your hard work in being the host for these challenges! I noticed that there was no Mt. Kilimanjaro (60 books) on next year's list. Was this on purpose or an oversight? This is the level I would naturally pick, but maybe this is a sign I should shoot for El Toro instead!

Thanks for letting me know....I was having trouble with my internet when I was trying to put these together. I'll investigate. But--if you think it's a sign that you should go for El Toro, then maybe you should. :-)

:-) What I don't understand is why I don't seem to be making a dent in the mountains--with the pandemic I haven't been going to bookstores and we didn't have the huge community book sale that we always do (and I cart out between 60-100 books, depending on how many mysteries they have that I can't live without). This year I've bought exactly 8 books and received maybe 10-15 more on gift-giving occasions. You'd think my piles would look smaller since I've read over 75...but noooooo.

message 23: by Conny (new)

Conny I'll be back, too, and have just opened a new tab to join the 2021 group :)

Natália Lopes (silkcaramel) | 69 comments I don't think I'll stop climbing mountains any time soon...not with these many books on my TBR. So, as long as you keep up with the Mount TBRs, I'll be climbing with you!
Thank you for putting these up for us, fellow climbers, Bev!

Thanks for setting up next year’s climbs, Bev! I’m up for conquering another mountain.

I know the feeling!! I only got 17 new books in 2020 (so far... there's still Christmas lol), which is my lowest in my adult life by far. Mostly because of the big used book sales being cancelled. And I also read more for this challenge than I ever have! But still my TBR pile is a whole mountain range.

Ezgi T (athenaninguncesi) | 63 comments I really enjoy Mount TBR challenges and look forward to them each year! Thanks for keeping it running!

Edit: Most of my purchases in 2020 were e-books, but even with that my shelves at home don't look emptier. I might need to try harder in 2021.

Gayle (OutsmartYourShelf) (outsmartyourshelf) I will definitely be taking part again next year. Thanks to you Bev for running the two challenges.

Bethea Scovic (bethea) | 7 comments Thank you! I've enjoyed this year. I need to check into the page more often though to keep updated. I need to figure out which mountain to climb next year. This year went slower than I anticipated, but then again, 2020 was a different kind of year altogether. I just want to verify - ARC books count toward the climb, correct? Thanks for doing this challenge page!

Yes, ARCs definitely count.

message 35: by Kerstin (new)

Kerstin (kerstinwoerterkatze) oh yes, I'll be there again. I love this challenge.

message 36: by Alexis (new)

Alexis I'll be joining again next year!!

message 37: by CinCO (new)

CinCO | 93 comments I'll definitely climb again. Have no idea what peak to shoot for since I had to upgrade multiple times this year, but that was because of working from home. It saves me 1.5 hours at least every day not to commute, which I can spend reading!

message 38: by Carla (new)

Carla B (carlamwestyahoocom) | 52 comments I will also join again. I dropped the ball big time last year tho. both in by NOT reading nearly what I usually read AND by buying so many more books I can't even give an estimated number! I believe some of my issue is I took up some crafts in addition to ones I already do and got addicted! so my reading suffered. as the year comes to an end I've revamped my "schedule" and hope to get myself bk up there this coming year. I will start at a smaller mountain tho . . . I can always go higher! or . . . if I finish what I have planned for this month which is on track for next year, maybe I'll stick to the same attempt as last year? choices choices

message 39: by Carla (new)

Carla B (carlamwestyahoocom) | 52 comments Cinco, what stinks here is the pandemic caused us to have MORE hours ugh! so actually less time for me . . . ya im pouting. they tell us at work we should be happy and I suppose that's right! but its hard lol

message 40: by Sophia (new)

Sophia (sophiarose) You're wonderful to put this challenge together and in more than one format, Bev. Thank you so much! :)

Carla B (carlamwestyahoocom) | 52 comments what is an ARC book?

Liander (The Towering Pile) Lavoie (liannelavoie) | 57 comments Carla wrote: "what is an ARC book?"

An Advanced Reading Copy. Publishers send them to book reviewers before publication to get publicity.

message 43: by Linda (new)

Linda I read 17 books on my tbr this year. I look forward to 2021!

message 44: by Sue (new)

Sue S I have just completed my goal of El Toro today - read 75 books from my TBR, but unfortunately have acquired many new/second-hand books during the year too, so will definitely be doing this again next year. Thanks for creating the incentive!

message 45: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 7 comments Thanks, Bev! This challenge is such a great incentive to get through my stacks of books (and not add to them!)
Looking forward to scaling new heights in 2021!
