Thank you!

I'm still debating wether my focus this round will be on the reading or on the social aspect of the readathon… I know there are people who can read posts and post themselves while listening to audiobooks, but I really can't lol

I will definitely do a wrap up post of course and I'll be visiting all of your threads tomorrow after the readathon, but I'm not sure if I'll be very active here during the readathon itself. Still have 2.5 hours to make up my mind lol

I will probably also be posting on Instagram (they changed something and I can't seem to find the place where I can limit their cookies? anybody have an idea?) and Twitter

Susy (susysstories) | 2288 comments Hour 1 mini challenge:
Opening Survey!

1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today?
The Netherlands

2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to?
The Cemetery Boys

3) Which snack are you most looking forward to?
Chocolate and pizza

4) Tell us a little something about yourself!
I was born and raised in the netherlands but my blood is portuguese. I love to read, traveling, cats, series and movies.

5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? If this is your first read-a-thon, what are you most looking forward to?
Hmmm, not sure yet. I always struggle to balance my time reading and time on social media...

Nice!

I only had mine today, at the end of the readathon! I hardly snacked this time… I have sooooo much left lol

message 13: by Susy (new)

Susy (susysstories) | 2288 comments Ok, so I had the feeling I had done extremely bad this readathon. I felt so overwhelmed with all the social media. Not only Goodreads (I want to interact with everybody but there are so many people lol) but also Instagram (I do like the photo challenged though) and this year also Twitter. There were sprints here and on Twitter, and on Twitter there were also Twitter Parties and mini challenged and and and… Then there were the hourly discussions on GR and the hourly posts on the website. Plus de mini-challenges. Of course I know I don't have to participate in everything but since choosing is not my strong suit….. lol

But then I did my stats, compared them to previous readathons and I didn't do bad at all. I did skip a lot of the social stuff, because hey, I also want to read some. So sometimes I posted a photo, sometimes I liked or reacted to a post on Twitter/IG, but I also read.

Now that the readathon is over, I'm going to visit some of the threads here on GR and see how you all did. After that I'm gonna continue reading cause I'm also participating in the 24B4Monday readathon which lasts until midnight (and since I haven't finished all of my books…)

But first…my stats!:

Ann A (readerann) | 867 comments I know what you mean about the social media, Susy! Every Readathon I tell myself I'm going to spend more time actually READING, but then I always end up with about the same results. I've decided to accept that my current mix of reading/audio/social media/other breaks works well for me.

Enjoy the rest of your reading weekend! I'm going to join you since I didn't finish a book yesterday :)

Yes, dividing your time between social media and reading is always a dilemma for me too.
You did great though!

message 19: by Emma (new)

Emma | 168 comments I agree with the social media stuff! In the end I just closed all the other pages and checked out GR at the end of each hour. That seems to be what works for me.

Great readathon!

Virginia (vlgrantham) | 48 comments Awesome job! I also would get pulled into social media, jumping between GR, Twitter, and Facebook. I didn't read as much as I felt I could, although I'm still happy with what I accomplished. I'm glad you had a fun readathon. See you next time!

You did great, Susy! There was SO MUCH going on to participate in this time around. Which is why I avoided all of it. I occasionally posted on the hourly blogs on the website, posted twice on IG, and that's about it!

Well, I guess all the interaction is what makes this readathon so special, it's not only about the reading itself.
See you in April! :D

Right? My phone just kept bleeping with all the twitter notifications.
But I had a great time so, I guess that's the important part. And I think I would have enjoyed it even more if I weren't worrying about not having read enough. So that's my goal for April: enjoy the reading ánd enjoy the socialising without worrying about it lol

Yes, I'll be participating. Books are ready, snacks are ready and rented a house in the woods with a friend (our tradition for April's Dewey's readathon).
So I'm all set to go (just want to finish my current audiobook as I have less than 50 pages to go).

message 32: by Ann A (new)

How are you liking Dracula?

message 37: by Susy (new)

Susy (susysstories) | 2288 comments Wrap up!
Spent more time on social media and sleeping than in April 2020, probably because the last weeks/months have been extremely busy and stressful at work so I was/am pretty tired.
I usually spend less time on social media in April cause I'm with a friend doing the readathon in comparison to October when I readathon alone.
I finished The Sandman series so I probably won't be reading any graphic novels coming readathons, meaning my page count will drop significantly!

And my audiobook was great too (I always have a hard time focusing but it worked well).
