Play Book Tag discussion

This is the story of Ivan, a gorilla kept at a mall display, together with an elephant that performed tricks. Both Ivan and the elephant Stella live in cages with no other of their species as company. Ivan is befriended by Julie, the young daughter of the janitor, who loves to draw and paint. When she gives Ivan a crayon and paper, Ivan discovers a talent for drawing as well, and his drawings are sold by his owner Mack.

I did not realize until the end of the book that this was based on a true story. Ivan really existed, although the elephant and dog were fictional. I loved this book, and felt it truly deserving of the Newbery medal.

It is really a lovely little story.

My granddaughter recommended that one to me and I completely enjoyed it.

I haven't read this one, but I loved Crenshaw by her.

All of my kids loved this one. I have The One and Only Bob sitting here calling my name.

Did anyone listen to the audio? I had a hard time getting into it, and I think it was due to the narration. I have the print book and I hope to get to it this week, though I think it fits the book-to-screen tag too.

Loved both books. Recommend audio book of The One and Only Bob. Danny Divito did a great job as Bob the narrator.
