Sandy B (sbenemer) | 161 comments Climate fiction novel set in a dystopian world where most animals are extinct and forests are years away from dying out. A young woman is determined to follow the last migration of Arctic Terns from Greenland to their projected destination in Antarctica and sweet talks a hardened fishing crew (whose bounty is also dying out in the sea) to take her on the journey. Her life and many surprising secrets are revealed in flashbacks. The book is not sanctimonious about the impact of humans on climate change and is really more about the woman and her backstory. Very inventive book, received critical praise. Gave it 4.5 stars (might have been higher if I had the physical book, as I enjoyed the audio version but felt I missed a lot of content).

A fishing boat following the migration of the Arctic terns! What a setting for a woman with such personal struggles. The way her background was revealed in flashbacks integrates well with her journey and the people she met on the boat. I think it is such a clever book, definitely in the top 5 books of the year for me.

Sandy B (sbenemer) | 161 comments I really liked it and glad you did too. It’s too bad it wasn’t marketed heavily to attract more of an audience - it’s a gem.
