NancyJ (nancyjjj) | 11071 comments I first read this book many years ago with a book club, and I loved it. After seeing some negative reviews here early this month, I picked it up, wondering if I missed something. Once I started I was immediately charmed by Enzo's observations of life. I was spellbound by his fantasies when he was accidentally left alone with no food. Thanks to Enzo's great nose, I understood what was happening to Eve. There was a lot of heartbreak in this book, and a lot of love. I loved Enzo's close relationship with Zoe and how he comforted Eve. I was surprised that no one mentioned the sex abuse allegation in their reviews. I read this section more carefully, wondering if it would hit me differently since the me-to movement. I loved the time Enzo spent with Denny and his friends, especially when Enzo got to ride in a race car. The Ferrari connection was great, and I was touched by some generous decisions. I still totally loved the ending.

Robin P | 5749 comments Good point that the allegation is a bit disturbing because it plays into the idea that women make this up for various reasons. I did love Enzo too, but I loved him most when he was more a dog, like shredding or peeing on the legal papers, I forget which. I just felt like the author went so over the top with the main character's misery, kind of like The Book of Job.

I know what you mean. My husband had a friend who went through Job like challenges when he went through a custody fight. It affected every single aspect of his life. I probably had that in the back of my head as I read this. The thing with the legal papers was really funny.
