It's not one of those heartbreaking, cutesy, or fantasy adventure type of dog book, but there is a lot of adventure, travel and humor. It's not a 'How to train your dog" book, but you will get some deep ideas on things that matter the most. It's a story of a real dog and a real man. It also has a lot of science information sprinkled in - on biology, genetics, behavior, motivation, and more.....

I listened to this book on audio, and there were so many times I wanted to elbow my husband to have him listen to a section. (One is an "I told you so" about an incident with cedar wood and breathing problems, but others were related to dogs we know.)
I know we have a print copy somewhere, and I'll go through it with him. He read this book many years ago, and it seemed to have a profound effect on him. Ted shows a deep respect for the autonomy of his dog, and I think that rubbed off on my husband's attitudes (not just with dogs, but with our kids). I was also reading leadership books around the time I read this, and I heard some of the same issues (respect, autonomy, trust, control vs flexibility, etc.) from Howard Schultz and even Bob Iger.
