More funky GR interface, I'm afraid. It didn't post twice, it simply displayed twice.
Did you have other messages, or was this your first. If you had others, you should see them if you go back into the message screen.

The person you send this to might still have received this in their email (depending on their settings), so they should check there. Rescinding it on GR will not make it disappear from their email inbox, I wouldn't think this possible... so there's hope it's not all lost!

Thanks Lisa, yes it has only posted once, but having deleted one thinking it had posted twice, it then deleted the previous message we had sent to one another, so beware folks

In that case they may well have three almost identical messages. Sorry MK
giveusaclue wrote: "it then deleted the previous message we had sent to one another, so beware folks"
You might have used the 'select all' check box before deleting for that to have occurred.
In any case, deleted messages are placed in 'Trash', and remain there for 30 days, so you should be able to retrieve them.
Also, the deleted message remains in MK's 'Sent' folder.

I afraid I can't help, I find GR fiddly as well- just wanted you to know that your'e not alone..

Can't see anything in trash, just a couple of messages to other friends

Two advantages of being here (for me) are 1. the benevolent moderation (although I'd still like to know for sure that it's LeatherCol who removed his pic, not something that was prompted by a flag!) and 2. the fact that you can edit your posts (so that stray apostrophe).
I'd still give it up in a heartbeat to go back to the G's TLS.

Yes, it is nice to be able to correct one's fat finger typos. I added my two penn'orth and emailed the Grun to complain, especially pointing out how insensitive it is at this particular tiime.

As would we all, I'm sure..

LeatherCol confirmed somewhere in this labyrinth that he removed the pic himself... forget the reason... you should be able to track it down.

Gladarvor has sent me a couple within GR, to which I have responded... presumably, these are not visible to everyone - or are they?
She also sent one which arrived by email, but for some reason I was totally unable to reply within my email system, getting a message that my comment had been undeliverable. Baffling.
Disappearing comments?
2 comments under photos seem to have vanished - one was under my first war graves photo (don't remember who posted it) and the other is one I posted under giveusaclue's lovely photo of St Chad's Water Wilne.

They're not visible to anyone but you and me. Whether they also arrive in your email inbox depends on how you have configured your settings (in your profile, at the third Emails tab).
I have asked for my email not to be shared, so the only way people who are my GR friends can contact me is from the GR interface (a bit like ebay if you're used to that).
(And yes, thanks, I've seen LC's reply elsewhere!)

Thanks for that - I was puzzled that you could email me, but not the other way around. I have no problem with that... everyone has to come to their own judgement about security, etc.

Don't know what to tell you, Gpfr. Justine and I (the mods of this group) do not have the ability to delete posts on the Photos page, so it was either an interface glitch or they were removed by the GR system moderators. I'll post a question to the Moderators Group, see if I can find an explanation.

Funnily enough, I got an email telling me of your first comment which appeared by now it has gone. I've tried posting one to see what happens!
Just checked and our posts are showing on my phone but not on the laptop. Odder and odder.

I have not been able to sort it out and will be very glad for any help that you can find Thanks

I suspect that we have reached our limit and some of the earlier ones need to be taken off now.
Maybe we need to set a time limit, say a week.
What do you think?
I have taken down my early ones. It seems that we have a limit on the number we may put up, looks to be 25/30 before comments disappear.

CCCubbon wrote: "another suggestion; clear all photos each Monday so that we have fresh ones each week. We could have a main 'photos of the week ' general theme."
That sounds a good idea to me.

Is there someone who'd be willing to take charge of that task?

This first time it was Cathedrals generally, they evolved!
Re: deleting photos...
Photo posters can only delete their own photos; only Moderators have ability to delete globally.
Let me work with the Moderators support group to get a better idea what the limitations are. I'll get back to you all.

Ok, I've heard back from the support team...
There are NO limitations to the size or number of photos allowed, or how long they remain in place.
Here are the ways photos can be removed:
--Members can delete their own posts.
--Group moderators (moi and Justine) can delete photos (we haven't).
--Any Ersatzer can flag a photo for inappropriate content, and the invisible GR moderation team would then remove it. (Doubt that's the case here...)
--Global GR system can remove photos that violate copyright rules. This is most likely what we're dealing with here. Folks posting their own photos would not encounter this, but photos posted from other web sites might be copyrighted and thus removed.
Questions?

would have been interesting to see if we could have created a TLS via wordpress that was a Guardian TLS copy
I'm just basically sticking to the "What We are Reading" blog, without upticks you cant see who is reading (not commenting) your pieces and most of mine seem to just drop into a sea of other comments

This was simply a possible solution to the disappearing comments on photos as once a certain number is reached comments do not appear. If there is no limit why does this happen and what can I do to see the comments again?
CCC, are you saying that comments attached to a photo disappeared, but the photo remains? If so, can you tell me which photo you're talking about?

I looked up on the web and found reference to a size limit in that things go wrong once a group’s limit is reached and a figure of 25 was recorded. All was fine until we reached page 2. I have looked in settings but cannot find any relevance and have tried help without success.

Can you give me a specific example: The name of the photo, a few exact words from a comment you can see in your comments under your profile but not attached to the photo?
Again, I'll take this up with the Moderator's Support group.

I think for book-related posts, the main 'What are we reading?' thread is the most useful. Maybe we can try to get into the habit of replying to a post with just a word or two, like 'Interesting' or 'Like this'. I always found responses more heartening than upticks, which sometimes felt a little too much like a popularity contest. They can be kind of lazy as well. It will take a while to get used to GR, but - at least for me - it remains a useful place for learning about books I might otherwise have missed.

O what can ail thee, knight-at-arms,
Alone and palely loitering?
The sedge has withered from the lake,
And no birds sing.
Many such lakes around here, too.
It disappeared.
I tried again
Repeating the last line but that is not there either but both are under my profile on comments.
Also Mach and I were having a discussion about an old glass dropper dating from c.200-400 AD mostly under my since deleted photoo of my Stone Age axe. Half of the comments were there but none of the later ones. I picked them up via email notifications . Many other examples I can give.
I have deleted all my photos.

That's unfortunate, CCC. The missing comment no longer appears in your profile comments. Neither I nor GR Support can troubleshoot without an example.
I am assured by GR Support that this is not related to a size limit, but possibly a bug. I have seen other Groups that have hundreds of photos and comments.
Let's wait and see if the problem shows up again. Feel free to add photos and to add comments. If anyone discovers that a comment has disappeared, send me the name of the photo, the name of the poster, and a sentence or two of the text of the comment, and I will take it to GR Support for help.

In the last message CCC posted, there is an example that is not related to her pictures:
Giveusaclue’s photo of St Chads Lake.

I wasn’t the only person to have this problem.
I just tried again on give’s photo. Wrote ‘ my posts keep disappearing’ . It showed. I closed gr, went back in and the comment is not there and no other comments show . I give up.

Yes, it is really buggy (like a website that doesn't have proper IT support)... On top of you and Mach, @gpfr was also reporting issues with comments disappearing behind some photos.

Giveusaclue’s photo of St Chads Lake.
Not CCC's photo. Giveusaclue's (as per CCC's post, and mine)

Ok, everybody, I can duplicate the bug now. Please hold off adding comments to page two photos, and let me take the issue to GR Support. I'll get back to you.

Sorry just tried before I read this. Blushes

How very dare you 😉?
Btw, the bug has also happened on the first page of the Photos (the last pic of the first page iirc, where CCC had put up the Stone Age axe.)

I think covid may have struck! 😀

Which makes me wonder if there is possible some browser incompatibility.
I'm sure there must be a better way to spend a Sunday evening. Such as actually reading. 😖 😃

I received the following response from the GR Support team:
Thanks for bringing this to our attention. I've tried adding a test comment too and I got the same issue you and your group members are having with the comments on the group photos. I've forwarded this issue to our developer team so they can look into this for you. It's worth noting that investigations can take some time, but please rest assured that they do look into each case that is brought to their attention. I'll keep you updated as soon as I hear back from them; hopefully they can fix this soon.

My question, I tried to send a message to a friend, and, when I posted it, it seemed as if it had posted twice. When I deleted one it seems to have deleted the whole conversation.
Any Ideas? Living up to my name again I am afraid.
