Lisa (thelibrarianchick) | 16 comments Real talk: 2020 has challenged us all enormously and in very different ways. But I think it would be safe to say that we’re all stressed as hell. On top of that we can’t eve have our traditional holiday book exchange. I’d like to add a little Icelandic joy into my holiday celebration this year, and I hope that you will join me in a little Jólabókaflóð! the tradition of exchanging books on Christmas Eve and then spending the evening reading often while drinking hot chocolate or alcohol-free Christmas ale called jólabland.

If this sounds like something fun to do and you have an amazon wish list with books on it, comment below and include the link to your wish list. Then, at the end of this month, I will DM you with the name of somebody else who has commented. Select a book off that person‘s wish list and get them all set up for their own special Jólabókaflóð nirvana. We all win and forget for a little while how crappy 2020 has been to us. Are you up for it?

Melissa Garcia | 12 comments this is an awesome idea! yes 2020 has definitely added some tension and suckie days. I'm going to have to set up a wishlist lol

Melissa Garcia | 12 comments what if we do a book and some hot chocolate too? there's so many different kinds

I was thinking how we could do that. I mean, if we're ordering a book for someone off their amazon wish list, that book gets delivered to them, but we don't know the address. Unless that person added a chocolate choice to their list too... But we can talk about it at tonight's meeting. :)

Rachel (librrae) | 127 comments I love this idea so much, I stole it for our Nashville group - thanks for the inspiration, Lisa!!

Melissa Garcia | 12 comments I missed the meeting. what did you guys decide? I hadn't thought about the address thing lol

message 13: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (thelibrarianchick) | 16 comments Amazon is set up to mail things from a person’s wish list to that person while keeping the person’s address private. So that would mean adding chocolate to your wish list. I think the consensus was, and those who were there please correct me if I’m wrong, that we would acquire our own chocolate if we were so inclined.

Lisa (thelibrarianchick) | 16 comments Last call for those who want to participate in celebrating Jólabókaflóð! For those who have commented on this thread with a link to your wish list (that includes a book!), expect a message from me on Tuesday (Dec 1) with the person you’ll be “flooding” with a book. Can’t wait! 😁

Peaches & Sunshine (peachesandsunshine) | 20 comments Hi friends! Heads up that Amazon doesn’t auto-add your mailing address to your wish list - you have to do it manually in the wish list settings. If you don’t remember adding one, it may be a good idea to check so your buddy can send you your book! :)

Elizabeth (elizabethflorez) | 61 comments Hey all, I thought maybe we could show off our Jólabókaflóð gifts at our next meeting. Or maybe post what we got here?

message 19: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Garcia | 12 comments I'm so sorry that I missed last night's meeting. I don't like zoom meetings! It's so easy for me to lose track of time when I go home and start going through the nightly routine.
I want to wish you all very happy holidays and a smooth and peaceful 2021, with lots of fun ;)

message 20: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (thelibrarianchick) | 16 comments yeah, I did too. I got caught up in cookie baking and then a friend called with worry over his mother’s crisis with Covid. I do want to wish you all the best of holidays and a happy night of reading on the 24th!

message 21: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (elizabethflorez) | 61 comments Sorry to hear that, I hope she's ok.

Also merry Christmas/happy holidays and the best of new years. Here's hoping 2021 treats the world better

Peaches & Sunshine (peachesandsunshine) | 20 comments Well said!
