Constables Whiley and Jenks are involved in the beating of Leonard Dunn after he’s in custody, jeopardizing the case where he could possibly be freed because of police brutality. What did you make of the scene at that time? Did you take them at their word?

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) This was a great diversion which at the time I never picked up would be an important twist in the plot. I completely took it on face value. It seemed perfectly believable that a younger, inexperienced Constable would be so sickened that he would lose his cool even briefly.

The only thing I picked up on was Whiley’s weird behavior. He wasn’t saying anything and as the seasoned, experienced officer, I expected him to take the lead. But, I got sidetracked by that idea he was protecting his pension. It seemed awfully dumb but I bought that Jenks lost control.

What a fantastic twist!

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3474 comments It is a great twist.

I did think that something was off with Whiley. I considered that Whiley was involved in the beating too then talked Jenks into taking all the blame. It seemed reasonable when we find out the Whiley is near retirement. I can see a young cop trying to protect his partner.

Didn’t you love Jenks’s outrage when he discovered he’d been played? This man put his family at risk to help out this man.

I did. Jenk's learned his lesson the hard way.

Lynn (ftbooklover) An enjoyable twist that was played right up to the end of the book.

Robin (robinmy) | 2450 comments That was a twist that I never saw coming. I totally bought into Jenks losing it and beating the prisoner.

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 1808 comments Yeah, I never saw this twist coming either. I was completely sidetracked by Alex's machinations.
