Hey folks, I've stumbled over a new technique for handling character emotions, and I've applied it to a novel that I had previously written. The novel was well received in its previous format. I think my changes have made improvements. But I'm too close to the manuscript to see whether I've succeeded in what I tried to do. I'm not interested in receiving reviews. I'm just looking for a read through with particular feedback on the consistency of the characterization. If you're interested, I will provide a copy in whatever format suits you. Thanks in advance to anyone who has the time. The novel is a mystery with thriller pacing and set in the near future. Here's a link to it pre-revision if you want to get a quick taste or see its reviews: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2.... I'd be happy to provide an Amazon or wider review in exchange for the feedback.

Kathleen Garlock (kathykg) | 101 comments Glad to help if I can. If you're familiar with strengthsfinders--individualization is one I can claim. :)

It will be hard to tell the difference since I haven't read the first version and can't compare it to the current iteration; but I can certainly weigh in on whether or not the characters 'live' for me.

If that works for you, then it works for me too. :)

Just let me know.

The other Kathy

Hey, Kathy! Thanks so much. Can you PM me an address where I can email you a copy and let me know what format works best for you?

I'm less concerned about a comparison as I am to know your reaction to the characters as they are in the latest version. I've looking for a reader's perspective. Are the characters well rounded? Do they engage you?

Let me know if there's something I can do in return for you!

Winifred Morris | 5 comments Kathy, I'm afraid I've been kind of disconnected from GoodReads, so I missed this post. But since I've read Calculated Risk, I'd be glad to take a look at your revision. I'm not promising I'll remember the previous version well enough to catch the differences without some finger-pointing from you, and it sounds like you may already have gotten the feedback you were looking for, but I'm curious about your new technique for handling characters' emotions--always a struggle for me too. --Winnie
