In post-WWII London two women, Iris Sparks and Gwen Bainbridge, hope to gain financial independence by opening their agency "The Right Sort Marriage Bureau". Their clients are both men and women who wish to meet a suitable partner with marriage being a desired path. One young woman, Tillie La Salle, is found murdered shortly after applying for a match. Unfortunately, the prospective bridegroom is the police department's prime suspect. Iris and Gwen are positive that their client is innocent and set out to investigate on their own. What they find is a dark underground of illegal business practices that the fair Tilly seemed to be right in the middle of. As they come closer to the truth, Sparks and Bainbridge become targets of a murderer themselves.
This is the first in a new series that has a lot of promise. The two women have interesting backstories that will more than likely add to future intrigue. I do enjoy their friendship and they are both quite quick-witted. I will certainly try the next installment soon.
