I saw Rachel had read my selection of The Nickel Boys and didn’t know much about the south’s Segregation. Actually this book is based on a horrible true account of a reform school that was finally closed for good in 2011 in Florida. There is an archeological team investigating the ground to find all the unmarked graves.
However this institution of horrors wasn’t restricted to African Americans.

Thanks so much for sharing this info and to me in your other comment. We definitely learn that it happened, and my parents made sure to teach me about the Civil Rights movement but I didn't know too many of the finer details. Fairly similar to the Residential School horrors that happened primarily to Indigenous People up here.
